I was getting all grumpy and then I realised that the only reason I want to get laid right now is because I want someone to experience the awesomeness that is my pants.

:D!

I'd do something productive tonight only I'm reading the Lioness books by Tamora Pierce, and therefore have regressed to the age of 13/14; ergo, any fic I wrote tonight would be absolutely dreadful Mulder/Krycek which would have awful characterisations that had been skewed by far too long spent reading fic by someone called Aries in which they called each other by their first names (yes, Mulder too) and set up house together. I'm going to spare the world that. I'm so glad I got that part out of the way before I got onto livejournal, seriously. Going through the archives here will only get you rather embarrassingly angsty Snape/Lupin, exceedingly short (and vanilla) Aziraphale/Crowley, and not nearly enough John/Rodney.

We will not mention the squickfest. XD

Where did you guys come from, fandomwise?

I should make a list of all the pairings I've written, someday - it'd make for interesting and worrying reading, especially if I included [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar in there. Meantime, I'm gonna go fret over Thom some more.

Heh, you're reading The Lioness series, too? It's cute and not too terribly fluffy, I just wish it came in adult version with more plot and politics... I would have adored it back when I was eleven.

I'm rereading. :D It's the easter holiday and I have a lot of work to do when I get back to Bath, so I'm destressing with familiar fiction; the lioness series and the chrestomanci books by Diana Wynne Jones. I'd rather read Archer's Goon but it's in Bath, sadly, and when I get back there I have to read about sensible things like homophobic bullying.

*sulks*

Have you read the immortals books? With Daine and folk? Numair and Rikash are AWESOME and should not be missed.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE AWESOMENESS!

Also, I adore the Tortall books, by Pierce. They're my 'quick, I need something to read for twenty minutes!' books, every one :)

Oh, um, there were questions, sorry. I was distracted by your offer of pants.

I'm a Joss-girl. Fell into Buffy at the end of s5, spread to Angel when it started and stayed there pretty much exclusively until I hit SGA. I am monogamous, mostly. Well, there was a brief detour into HP where I wrote something I really am proud of, even if it's unfinished, but that was for less than a year and SGA? So. Much. Better :)

Someday I will make some sort of artistic presentation of pants and photograph it for the betterment of livejournal. XD

I've only read the lioness quartet and the immortals quartet, and without question my favourite character is Rikash Moonsword. SUCH A BITCH.

*loves him*

I also used to have such a crush on Gainel, the dream god.

I'm monogamous, usually, but there're a couple that seem to endure - Good Omens and Due South tend to pop up here and there within other fandom alliegances.

SGA is without question my best fandom experience so far, though, and contains the fic I'm most proud of. My body of work is sad, though, I really need to get working on more. XD

Ironically, I am writing Lioness fic. It's a difficult conundrum, but--George! \o/

(Rereading the early meetings with George is a bit hilarious in the amount of casual murder the book implies that he must have been involved in. I think if Alanna met him for the first time as a new knight, she might be a little more cautious than she was as a overawed, innocent preteen. Not that I wouldn't be on that story in an INSTANT.)

Heh heh heh...my first proper fandom was definitely the anime series Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon, back in the days when tracking down subtitled anime required time and effort and VHS tapes. Ah, the heady days of USENET....

From there, I sort of springboarded from various anime fandoms into books with the Crossover Monstrosity. ^_^

I cannot even see the word 'Alanna' these days without going AUGH THESIS SHOULD BE WRITING AUGH. *hides head in the sand*

On the other hand, toting my Alanna books everywhere about with me in order to get 'research' in means that I constantly have thesis-writing buddies going 'OMG ALANNA . . . can I borrow for a bit? You can work off your theory texts for a while, right?' I feel I am spreading the gospel! It gives me warm fuzzies.

(As for your actual question, I came at fandom sideways through Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera fandoms, where I both devoured and spouted silly parodies at ff.net. For the longest time I was terrified to read or write any actual srs bsns fic, though.)

I tried reading the first Lioness book, but it didn't quite grab me enough to read the rest. It wasn't 'til I was 20 or so, though, so I think it was just that I didn't read it at the right age. I could see how I would have liked it earlier on. I still read mostly children's/YA books, though. :)

Waaaaay back (in the late '90s XD) I was tragically and embarrassingly obsessed with Sailor Moon. I have since disowned the fics that came from that time period. They were truly awful, filled with the angst and sappiness and horrid writing skills of a geeky high schooler. I don't even have them anymore, but I still cringe just thinking about them. (tragically, they still exist somewhere on the Internet, though thankfully under a different name).

Then I wasn't really into any fandoms for a while (at least not beyond just watching some shows), and then I got sucked into SGA by happy chance (one of my flisters writes SGA fics, and while channel surfing on season 4 premier night I thought I'd check it out to see what these characters looked like, and I was addicted within 5 minutes) and life has improved vastly (also, thankfully, my writing skills). :D

My old fic is still somewhere on the internet, too, although - like you - I've changed my online handle since, thank buggery.

The Alanna fic I didn't read until I was about 20, but I was hooked on the ones after - the Immortals quartet - when I was 13/14. I used to really wish that Gainel the dream god existed.

I got into SGA through fic also - I read String Theory and made a post saying 'who are John and Rodney, and why should I care?' Then I downloaded the pilot, and it was all downhill from there. XD

Er, I think the list is pretty extensive because I am a whore and I like to devour entire fandoms before moving on. I apologize in advance for TL;DR.

I was in Anime at first: Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Digimon (OH GOD, the shame BURNS), Gundam Wing, and Card Captor Sakura - though, um, not at the same time, obviously. After that I sort of drifted around for a while, pinging between Joss 'verse, a few other TV shows, and some books. Then, epiphany of epiphanies - my first wave of Harry Potter love. I shipped Harry/Hermione for a lonnng time, but then stumbled onto slash by accident and went a little crazy for a few years. I read slash in every fandom I could get my grubby little paws on: Lord of the Flies, Popslash, Interview With a Vampire (ahhahahahaha, they couldn't even have proper sex because their bits didn't work; I have no idea what I was thinking), Gundam Wing (again!), Discworld - and then I found LJ and fell headlong back into Harry Potter.

I was semi-monogamous with the insanity of that fandom for a few years because it had so many pairings I loved that I was pretty satisfied, but I admit I also dabbled: LotR, The Libertines, Good Omens (guess why I flailed all around the room when you friended me!), Pirates of the Caribbean, CSI Las Vegas. I ended up stumbling upon Supernatural/J2 by accident through ladyjaida, and that was the first fandom I actively participated in on LJ. I spent almost exactly a year there before finding SGA, and now here I am! Hooray!

Um. That is really long, I'm sorry. :o

(guess why I flailed all around the room when you friended me!) - but - I - what?

How did you go about fandom pre-LJ? I was on yahoo lists for Due South and X-Files, but I was so unaware of what there was.

Never be sorry for long comments! Long comments are love!

Oh, I wrote awful Harry Potter fanfic once upon a time. This was before my slashy days, when I thought anything but gen humour fic was sort of icky. I did a sort-of-song-fic-type-thing in which Harry and the Death Eaters were all cursed so they could only talk by singing. Yes, I did. I also never finished a story in which the Trio tried actually magic Magic Mushrooms and had Adventures in a really bizarre acidtrip universe. Likewise for my one and only Mary Sue, who was Awesomecakes and had Special Powers and a salamander and was a teacher's aide at Hogwarts even though they don't have teacher's aides and she was technically too young for it, and everyone had a crush on her, and she Sekritly guided Voldemort until she got bored with him because muggle-killing is boring like that so she helped Harry. Or she was going to, obviously I didn't finish it. Oh god how did I type that without regurgitating massive quantities of sparkles.
