No offense meant to whoever made it, but the video in which fans insist David Hewlett say 'I love you too, John Sheppard'? I cringe. Seriously. I mean yeah, it's not on a par with the whole Michael Rosenbaum sextoys incident, but still.

I respect your opinion as well :) This was mostly my attempt to help ease any worries above and beyond your natural level of 'just NO,' because if you're anything like me, you genuinely like David and don't want to see him in that position. Knowing there was a prior comfort level might alleviate the more present worries, not the overall level of 'don't ruin it for the rest of us, thanks.'

It's difficult not to want to cross that line with David, whether or not we DO (a lot of us wanted to ask him about his wedding, but there were worries re: his comments at Meet the Hewletts that his wedding pictures might not have been fully voluntarily posted, and that would be an uncomfortable thought to revisit for him), and the general consensus for most of the people I spent time with there was 'boy do we wish--but we won't.' David makes that line blur because he's a fan and so accessible and accommodating. I agree with you in the hope that things like this won't push him toward drawing back from that behavior.

*shuts up as she doesn't want to appear like she's trying to convince or rationalize*

No! no no no shutting up. It's 2:35 a.m., it's babble time! I totally understand the urge to push the boundaries where pushing is possible, but we're not the only ones who share con reports, I'm thinking. I mean, actors are gonna talk to each other every now and again about What I Did On My Summer Vacation, and someone's joke is someone else's freaky behaviour, as is so very very often the way.

(And I would be more respondy but I'm totally distracted by memories of Meet the Hewletts. God, in person he's just so much prettier than you could imagine, isn't he? XD)

See, I'm actually really hoping that David's take on this will be 'EAT IT, Flannie, I totally sound insincere.' I know that he did Joe impersonations on purpose because he knows Joe checks youtube for him (which, can I just say, I love? Because the videos of David impersonating Joe that David's referring to have no tags that reference Joe at all, so he had to have been virally surfing or have looked up David's name directly in search...), so I guess one can always hope! But yes, material point is, it's not just the fans who go home and talk about this stuff. It's easy to remember with David and Kate, because they're just so gosh-darned REAL it knocked my socks off. Dear Kate said she liked going to cons because it made her feel like a celebrity as she's not recognized as anyone famous at home! *squishes her*

I totally am going to be weird and link to my Shore Leave stuff (http://darsynia.livejournal.com/tag/life:shore+leave) because David gave me a nickname and is SO fabulously awesome in person and I heckled him and he told me I was 'so dead at recess!' Which reminds me, I really need to do the rest of my recap write up. I took 12 pages of notes... *headflop onto desk*

ETA: OH, oh oh OH. BTW. I had seen the video that started out with him looking supremely uncomfortable without the lead-in, which afaik isn't online then? I didn't know there were two, and had assumed the one on [livejournal.com profile] mckay_sheppard was that one, and WOW, yeah, big difference between the two. If one had to be linked, thank god it's this one, because without the lead in for context it's really uncomfortable. I wasn't there, so I didn't know she asked that way, nor had I seen his uncomfortable side glance fall off his face when he was done. This is mostly self-backpatting at this point, but oh MY, I feel better. I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] grammarwoman hadn't planned on advertising she had it to more than just her flist, for the very contextual reasons you stated.

HAHA! Thank you for giving me the laugh of the night because the only thing I can hear in my head now is "in your face, Flanigan!"
