nnyThis is a small snippet from the 'verse of a fic that is unfinished, inspired by something... that you cannot see yet.

“Yes, your new boyfriend is very attractive.”
Rodney nearly bites his tongue, spinning around to face Radek with one hand clutched to his chest.
“But you should be aware,” Zelenka continues, “that your staring is making the other customers nervous. You are like –“
“A teenage girl?” Rodney finishes for him, sarcastically – he’s already heard it once from Kavanagh, which would explain why the shop is making its way towards unnervingly dust-free.
“No,” Radek answers, tapping his finger against his lips. “No, that is not it. It is more like – like eight year old girl who wants a pony.”
Rodney scowls and turns away again, resting his arms on the counter and – okay, yes, possibly staring a little too intently, but John’s cradling a record, a small frown of concentration creasing the skin between his eyes as he inspects the vinyl for warping or scratches, and Rodney’s not entirely sure how not to look.
“Thank you,” he says after a moment, “for that assessment of my emotional maturity. I can’t tell you how reassuring it is.”
“The girl has wanted a pony forever, of course,” Radek continues implacably, “has whined about the lack of a pony, made cases for how much she deserves a pony, made frankly disturbing comments on the ponies of others…”
“Is this going anywhere? Because there’re boxes of unsorted records out back with your name on them –“
“And then one day she has come downstairs to find that parents have bought her not just a pony, but a sparkling pink unicorn.”
Rodney turns back to Radek, mouth hanging open, and the other man smirks and gently taps his cheek.
“Happy is a good look for you, I think.”
“Have you broken Rodney again?”
Rodney’s face flushes bright red at the sound of John’s voice, and he scowls.
“Radek says you look like a gay horse.”
John laughs and Rodney can’t help but watch him, his stomach tying in knots as John’s fingers brush against the back of his hand.
“It’s a good line, Radek, and I'd be tempted,” John drawls, “but at the moment I’m kind of taken.”
*laughs*
