I apparently have some kind of trojan something or other on my computer, which means my virtual memory keeps panicking and I'm running free spyware/adware stuff every two seconds. Spy doctor can FIND the trojan but you have to pay for the version that'll REMOVE it.

What do I do?

I use AVG - it's free and it hasn't let me down yet (unlike Norton, which attempted to remove a virus and the 'fix' was waaaay worse than the virus in the first place!)

AVG was recommended on someone-or-other's LJ way back when, in answer to much the same question. Good luck!

I second AVG. I just had my system kind of rebuilt (with that and Spybot Search & Destroy instead of McAfee) because of a nasty rootkit trojan horse. Good luck.

When you boot your computer, tap repeatedly on the F8 key. That'll bring you a menu where you can choose safe mode.
