Um help? Blue screen of death, mumble mumble something about... er... BIOS? WHAT? I do not know what to do. Do I back up and system restore? Plz help with the advice thing, 'cos I've only had this computer about a year and my finances are considerably less solid than Niska.

Ack, oh no! What were you doing before? Because it could be as simple as just rebooting and it'll be fine... I'd do a system backup just in case, though. Or verify when the last one was, and maybe use that... ack!

It's happened three times now, so I think things are not as they should be. I'm going to copy all of my writing to disk - all music is stored on my iPod and all films and such are replacable, so.

I can't afford enough CDs/DVDs to back up!

Try restoring to a previous point? Don't worry about saving stuff (unless it's mucho important, and then I'd suggest uploading it somewhere, or use something like mozy)

D: Plus or minus R? I have a giant freaking spool of them that I got like a year ago for a birthday or something and have barely dented... I can send you some blank ones and little paper holders!

If it's happened several times, you should probably check if you can set the system restore back to before it started happening.

Running an anti-virus scan in safe mode is also a good idea. You'll want to make sure your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date first. If you don't have anti-virus software, AVG (http://free.avg.com/) is free and I have a few friends who use it without complaints.
