Oct. 16th, 2003 04:38 amThere was the most amazing sunset tonight. The kind that no one would believe if you painted it. There was orange all the way across the sky; stripes of flourescent orange and grey, with tiny clouds reflecting bright enough almost to hurt you eyes in the West and the approaching night countered by the last struggling scraps of cloud in the East. The clouds were like swirls of colour across the sky, not the slightest view that wasn't full of amazing shapes and colours.
And then, as the sun slowly faded, it became almost menacing. Wisps of cloud that had reflected the light beautifully now looked like the tail-end of angry brush-strokes from a frustrated painter. The sky in the West was a sullen yellow that looked *wrong*, somehow. It jarred.
Then it was dark. And the lights of the city looked like a sea of stars.
I wish I'd had my camera- but... it could never have shown the beauty. It would have been a pale imitation. I'd rather keep the image in my head, so it doesn't get replaced by the memory of a half-assed depiction on film.
