I apologise, but I find all the Merlin love faintly freaksome. They're so very young!
(I'm entirely too conscious of my age, at present. I suspect I shan't do anything at all for my birthday, save go to work and then tuck myself into bed with a cup of tea. I'm going to be 26 - any exertion and I rather fear my limbs will protest the use and fall off.)

(I'm also hugely amused by how very English I become when I'm writing Good Omens.)

Date: 2008-11-22 07:02 pm (UTC)Then again, I like watching The Sarah Jane Adventures and honestly adore Johnny Maxwell, so... you know. I think I'll be the same at 45. So while I'm not fannish about Merlin, and the slashers are kinda freaking me out (especially since I've known so many of them to be ridiculously het for years with shows that have much worse female characters, while this one has awesome girls) I can see how other people would be into it. They're young, but not that young. And they're not even that young considering the age they're growing up in. Not to mention, when I like something in a fannish way I don't like it in the same context as my real life. It allows me to think with fondness about Them exploring sexuality and other silly things kids do that someone older would find improper. (Or at least find improper that someone that's not a kid thinks of these things.)
Then again, I am seeing a 20 year old boy so this might just be me feeling defensive.

Date: 2008-11-22 07:09 pm (UTC)The porn and actor-fandom bit does kind of freak me out, though, cause the guy playing Merlin is a year younger than me and apparently this hits my eeep button! Who knows. :) Apparently there really is nothing as old-inducing as people flailing over someone younger than you! (Thankfully Arthur is older than I am and therefore finding him very pretty doesn't bother me at all. *snort*)

Date: 2008-11-22 08:07 pm (UTC)But I haven't been feeling particularly fannish about it (not yet, anyway), and I think their age has something to do with it. It doesn't freak me out; it just doesn't appeal to me in the same way characters closer to my own age do.
