Combination of reading so many discussions on racism and watching The Golden Compass left me with hideous eugenics based dreams last night. As a result I'm completely underslept and overtired, and generally disappointed with humanity. Most disappointing - and as a teacher I'm faced with this every hour of every day - is so many people's unwillingness to learn.

I don't have a solution. All I can say is that you have to keep plugging away with the teaching, just for those few who do listen, eventually. Exhausting, innit?

Right now, though, I'mma have a cup of tea and a piece of toast with jam on it, and I'm going to read about how much John loves Rodney and how much Benton loves Ray, because that makes me happy. And everybody should have things that make 'em happy, every now and again.

As one who suffers from the "Nope. Done now. Shutting down." learning disability, I apologize for the lot of us.

Hey, no, I know many pupils like that, and I work with them for the five minutes, ten minutes, half an hour or whatever that they're okay for, and then start again the next lesson/day/week. That's completely different from the students who don't believe that there is anything you can teach them, who are unwilling to put any effort in to learning, and who believe that they are somehow special snowflakes who will be excused by the world and given a job on a platter. Those students are generally arseholes. But I work frakin' hard with them, too.
