Not going anywhere or drinking anything, this weekend. My plan is to tidy my room - too much craft-stuff everywhere - and to sort out my life to the extent that I can get back to writing. I miss writing. At least the pile of envelopes will be gone by tonight, but damn this is gonna be an expensive meme. Next time everyone's getting poetry. Or something made of feathers. XD

Does anyone know of any natural energy boosters? I can't understand how people work full time, sometimes - I mean, I have an arse of a commute but it could definitely be worse, and my job's not that hard so long as you can cope with people, but I just get home so incredibly drained. I do not understand 'overtime'. This concept seems impossible. I have spent this entire week without enough sleep - there are genuinely not enough hours in the day for me to get more than 5/6 hours a night, and right now that's not cutting it.

Is there a way I can wake myself up that doesn't involve excess caffeine?

Protein is good, as are complex carbs -nods- Eating a mix of something like fruit and oatmeal is good, because the fruit gives you the sugar high, and the oatmeal lasts longer. Bananas are good, too. I know a lot of people who drink green tea, too - some like matcha, which is basically a type of green tea.

Exercise is supposed to give a boost, too, though it doesn't really work for me :P

Seriously, though? I'd dedicate like, a week or something to trying to get as much sleep as possible, if you can. I used to be so, so drained when I went to school, and later on I figured out that it was because I just wasn't getting enough sleep. Your brain gets foggy and you just stop functioning, and everything becomes an ordeal - and you feel drained at the end of the day. All the other stuff will help, but only so much if you're not getting enough sleep.

Thank you for the advice! I'm definitely going to try and sleep as much over half term as possible - just a couple of weeks to get through until then. I guess two weeks of caffeine can't hurt, right?

XD

Two weeks of caffeine definitely won't help if you combine it with eating as well as you can, haha. Just don't drink lots of it on an empty stomach :P

The eating right really will help, though - it gives your body and brain the right amount of energy throughout the day, which is good.

I think I'm eating about as right as I can at present - organic vegetables, pasta and lentils and potatoes and bulgar wheat and all sorts. I'm still overweight but I don't reckon I've been healthier in my life. :D

Hehe, you sound as though you're on the right track ♥ I bet you'll feel so much better once you have that break you mentioned.

Pick up a bottle of B complex vitamins. Take at least one every morning before you go to work, and another with your lunch. If you feel craving for salty foods, (and you will, because the adrenal glands run on salt, fats, and B vitamins,) choose nuts instead of crackers or chips, as the salted nuts are the least damaging form of fat you can eat for it.

If/when you get a cold or flu (and those go hand in hand with adrenal exhaustion, by the way, so look out for exposure,) double your vitamin B intake, and drink a lot of water.

And for quick energy at work, keep trail mix with nuts and raisins near your desk. Not the candy, sugary sort of stuff, but the bare bones variety that's mostly nuts and dried fruit with perhaps a few crackers in. If you graze on that throughout the day, that'll keep your blood sugar on an even keel, and stop you crashing and getting tired enough to fall over. The idea there is to never really fill up until the evening meal, but to keep the fuel intake steady and fairly constant, so the tank never gets empty either. The digestive engine produces a constant feed of energy that way, and you'll be better balanced throughout the day.

Thank you so much for the advice! I'm going to find it difficult to snack, though, I know that much already - I feel guilty enough about the amount I eat as it stands. The wonders of having a mother with weight problems bring you up. ;)

I second all of that.

The B vitamins - had good experiences with them.

I also find taking iron supplements helps me stay awake during the day...but take that with a grain of salt (METAPHORICALLY & ;-) because too much iron can damage your liver; it's just that my levels are naturally rather low even in times where the rest of my blood work is perfect.

Cluegirl, I do the same - I like eating, and I do it all day long, just: small amounts of fruits and nuts and low-fat yoghurt, and so far, it keeps me happy and my weight stable (caveat: it's not an area of concern for me, so I don't check regularly).
