I am reviving my longstanding crush on Toni Collette through the means of United States of Tara, partly because I think it might be safer than watching Misha Collins in Nip/Tuck.

State of the 'Nny: crazy but dealing with it. As per. :D

Do any of you guys have hideous organisational problems? And if so, how do you deal with it in a vaguely 'functioning in real life' sense? 'cos forward planning makes me itchy. Like flea bites. Which, sadly, have not fallen off in numbers so we're thinking screw the environmental friendliness and NUKE THE BASTARDS. When I can afford to. Which'll be on Thursday.

But yeah - planning units of work is not something I can bend my mind around, especially at present; my mind is less bendy and liable to snap. And the lack of planning makes my evenings hectic and my blood pressure high. Or, at least, higher than usual; my doctors have told me that it's low, before, and that I ought to drink far more. Which reminds me, I'm giving up alcohol for Lent. Not Christian, but I kind of need the lack of mental-state-deterioration.

Maybe four days left of [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000. I'm gonna try and write three more stories, 'cos that way I can taste the whole rainbow. :D

Heh heh, I was v. serious about the cognitive dissonance :D :D I ended up somewhere around LOLWTF, not necessarily in a bad way, just... I mean, Castiel.

I try to manage my hideous organizational skillz by having a monthly calendar I write stuff on. Some of it tends to be when assorted bills are due, meeting reminders, and additional deadlines. I am horrible about dates and forget them chronically, so I need to have a reminder staring me right in the face. So I got a dry-erase calendar board, and it has the additional advantage that I can draw things on it with my awesome dry-erase markers.

Every time I think I'm catching up on the cool TV programmes (4 episodes in SPN \o/ and really enjoying it!) someone mentions another one that I have to go find. *goes to look for USoT*

I live my life off of lists that actually resemble spider diagrams more than anything. That way, I can get everything done, but in the order I want to do it. When it's really bad, I have to break my day into blocks like at school, because otherwise I sit at my desk/on the sofa mindlessly refreshing LJ and wondering why people aren't around when I want.

Coloured pens also help. I use at least 4 different colours, or it's not a real list.

Still, this evening I have cooked food, which is useful, but I haven't got the washing done, which was more urgent and could have been doing at the same time *facepalm* It's a work in progress...

Good grief, what are they? Super fleas? They sure like your flat. Good luck with the tactical strike!

The biggest single aid to organisation is carrying a diary and writing stuff down, I find. Personally, I am a list person: it helps me to see a list of things I need to do and then I can get a sense of achievement when I cross something off (I have been known to make the first item on the list something which can be done in 2 seconds, because that means I get to cross something off almost immediately. YAY.) However, not everyone works like that -- I had a colleague once who hated lists because they just made her feel overwhelmed. She used to make spider diagrams on scraps of paper, because that let her capture her thoughts in a much less regimented way.

One trick that helps me a lot is this: when I find myself putting off doing something because it feels too big/too intimidating, I break it down into smaller tasks. Then I try to set aside the overall task and just focus on doing the smaller tasks, one at a time, because that way I feel a sense of accomplishment at having *achieved* something, and it helps me not to feel as stressed about the overall thing that needs done. Giving myself small rewards for completing individual tasks helps, too.

I think everyone has their own little tricks; my recommendation would be to try a few different things, and when you find something that works for you, stick with it and make it a habit.

on catching up on lj, a bit: a great many hugs. perhaps i will email you... perhaps not. i have managed to lose your landline number, which is a pesky nuisance when writing things down is not happening very well. I could tell you about Poland, for that is cheery.:)
