I'm absolutely loving Being Human, really I am, but I'm hoping that the writing of women improves.

I've got to 1x03 and so far I don't think Annie has had more than one conversation that hasn't revolved around a man, Lauren is desperate for the assistance she can only get from Mitchell - and is controlled by, and learns to depend on other male vampires - and Nina has reacted angrily and defensively when 'accused' of being a feminist.

Seriously, show, you can do better than this. You're adorable, and you're funny, and you're screwing it up. I'm hoping things get better, because I really want to be able to watch this without twitching.

(I will spoiler if you like, but I would say you can relax about that, mostly. Also Nina is AMAZING and I think we can justify her response to the feminist comment as just being her stating a fact in a slightly snarky way, rather than being all OMFG NO I AM NO FEMINIST.)

Just that everyone in the show has their moments of both awesomeness and "I must stab you now for being such an IDIOT."

I almost stopped watching because I was in a situation that was similar to Annie's once, but I didn't and I'm so glad I did.

what they said. And also: be prepared to hate Mitchell and George on occasion. Then forgive them because they do stupid things out of being crazy and you can sort of see why, but stupid.

That's the show. You know how people in Real Life get bouts of crazy? It's like that.

But also: flawed and done right. In that, we know why they act so stupidly. In other shows I get annoyed with stupid characters. In this, I forgive them and wish the Mitchell hugs

*nods* I totally agree with this! They're imperfect people struggling to do their best in an imperfect world, and you can't help loving them for it, even when you also want to kick them.

I would say "yes and no". There were things about the way the female characters were written that made me twitch almost all the way through. But then they kept making up for it with moments of utter awesome. Ultimately I think the awesome outweighed the twitchiness by quite a lot, but YMMV of course. (Edit: sorry for the multiple comment posts. LJ hates me today.)

We had some interesting discussions here on the first two/three eps -- you're definitely not alone in your thoughts on the treatment of women, but I think everyone involved in that discussion (a) watched until the end and (b) was (on balance) glad they did.
