Mar. 19th, 2009 04:15 pmUgh.
Got called a racist at great length and volume today for asking a kid to put away his phone. Frankly yeah, I am, being white and all, but not for that. Then, after I had had a discussion about that remark, he called me fat.
I fucking love my job.
(I know it's true, okay, I do, but it frickin' hurts.)

Date: 2009-03-19 04:53 pm (UTC)The point is that teachers are in the power position and students are supposed to respect that, at least a little. I know these are older kids so all the more reason for them to be even less flippant. He should've known better. One of the saddest things about teaching is that there are just some kids always beyond that touch of reason, and while they're the ones that need the most consideration, they're often the ones we want to give it to the least. And who deserve it the least, and you don't get paid enough to deal with little sociopaths. That kid wants a stern talking to and some sort of disciplinary measure, I think, by someone. I don't know. I'll stop rambling now.

Date: 2009-03-19 07:22 pm (UTC)A friend of mine once told me that calling someone a racist is a way to take control of an argument, because hey, once you've been backed in that corner, and you're trying to work your way out, you're sort of stuck. It's hard to make your point when you have to defend yourself to begin with.
It's something bullies do. They call you names, because they think it gives them power over you.
*hugs you* You're not fat. In French, you're not grosse, you're ronde. The first is an insult, the second a compliment. You have curves. They're beautiful. It's sad that he can't see that.
