Woke up this morning and felt like crap. Everything I owned (and several things I didn't) ached, most especially my head and eyeballs, and I was all sneezly and coughly and yuck. You know the way your brain goes OMG I HAS PIGGY SNIFFLES!?
Turns out my school has a kid in quarantine because his mother has the first suspected case in Gloucestershire, after coming back from Mexico recently.
GODDAMMIT, I AVOIDED SCABIES, I AM NOT GETTIN' THIS.
For now I'm not concerned, I'm just gonna go to bed early, but if I get any worse I'm gonna trundle around to the doctor and look pathetic at them. Blech.

Date: 2009-04-29 04:48 pm (UTC)- REST! SLEEP!
- I am a big believer in chicken soup with extra garlic and hot pepper, or hot-and-sour soup, or equivalent.
- hot lemon+honey+slices of fresh ginger (in water, of course) is also nice.

Not that I think you do. Sometimes a cold is just an annoying cold.
*goes back to snuggling*

Date: 2009-04-29 05:40 pm (UTC)I hope you don't have piggy sniffles, or that if you do, you get over them quickly and easily.
But I have to tell you, "piggy sniffles" is just the best phrase ever. I'm weathering a bit of a scare here (a school 4 blocks from my kids' school was just closed), so thinking of it as "piggy sniffles" is helping immensely.

Date: 2009-05-01 11:38 pm (UTC)You didn't come across as arrogant at all, honestly. It's just that I'm a UK med student, and we had a suspected case of swine flu in our surgery last week (it didn't turn out to be that, but he'd been to Mexico and was sick) and he was hustled out of the back door with great haste and told not to come back under any circumstances. They have special teams who are doing house calls.
Of course, the advice has probably changed six times since then ;-)

Date: 2009-04-30 10:40 am (UTC)We had a suspected case in our surgery and the doctors were all GO AWAY NOW PLZ, AND NOT THROUGH THE WAITING ROOM.
I really do think you don't need to panic too much - it is spreading but most people do seem to recover pretty well from it, and it's very responsive to antivirals. If you did have it, which you most likely don't, I have every confidence that you'll be fine, apart from feeling a bit rotten for a few days.
However. Call NHS Direct now, plz, and let me know what happens. Love you! xxx
