May. 18th, 2009 07:57 pmHAHAHAHA TODAY I AM AS SPAMBOT!
I gave up eating bread two days ago, because I've been pretty sure I've got an intolerance to something for a while now, and then I read a list of symptoms and mentally ticked every one off. Bread was the thing I didn't have in the house at the time, so that was the thing I decided to try to go without first. Since then I've been less bloated, less gassy, less stomach-achey, less IBS-y in general, really.
I feel better than I've felt in a long time, which leads to wailing and rending of clothes.
BREEEEEEEEEEEEAD! D:
I am making myself feel better with pictures of Jon Walker. He's sort of awesome.

Date: 2009-05-18 07:54 pm (UTC)And think of how skinny you'll get if you lose all those wheat and gluten based carbs! Awesome!
(Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic--I'm truly happy for you.)

Date: 2009-05-18 08:33 pm (UTC)I'm already noticeably less blimpy, actually, thanks to the lack of bloating; more need for belts. :D

How could I find out if gluten is the problem? I mean, I can't afford any sort of allergy test, so the only advice the doctor is likely to give is to cut things out of diet until you find what causes symptoms, which I have.

Date: 2009-05-18 08:39 pm (UTC)Here (http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Allergies/Pages/Eliminationdiet.aspx) is the NHS page on elimination diets, which is essentially what you'd be doing. But I'd still talk to your doctor anyway- you shouldn't have to pay for an allergy test and if you do this and keep a food diary first the Dr may be more likely to listen to you.
long reply!
Date: 2009-05-18 09:19 pm (UTC)I couldn't *still cant* afford a battery of tests but I stopped eating white bread nine years ago (wow) because i was just *so* ill all the time.
A friend persuaded me to keep a food diary for three weeks and da daa! turns out it was white bread flour causing my problem. My friend found she was alcohol (used in food as a preservative) intolerant which is a right pain for her.
Over the years of testing myself I found out i can eat wholemeal flour sparingly without too many problems. So whole meal rice, pasta and one particular brand of whole meal bread i seem to have no prob with so far.
Some brown/wholemeal labelled bread is actually white coloured with caramel I had a bit of a mine field to traverse.
Maybe you will have the same luck as me? and not have to give it up completely in time.
(Oh, my sister, aunt, cousins and brother have food intolerances too all found in the last few years!
"oh you mean all these years you moaning about food it was actually true, after all?" said by my brother to me last month after finding his intolerance to cheese, chocolate and oranges.
*sigh*
:) x
