Jun. 3rd, 2009 08:10 pmETA: TENTATIVE RETRACTION! Last time I had this thing it took everything I could throw at it and more, and it took paying for anti-virus stuff to stop it.
bethbethbeth recommended a free program that seems to have worked, at least for now. FINGERS CROSSED IT STICKS! If I disappear without warning, assume it has reappeared. ;)
As things stand: I appear to have a trojan thing on my main computer. THIS IS A PROBLEM. I'm moving at the end of the month and therefore cannot afford to get my laptop fixed, or get any sort of virus protection doobry on this computer. I need this computer desperately to do my job, so the only thing I can see to do is to attempt to suppress it enough that I can do my work while my computer is not connected to the internet.
In practical terms? This means not having the internet at all for the next at least two months. I won't be able to afford to set up internet in my new flat for a while, and I will still have the problem of virus and broken laptop even when I get to a point where I can afford that.
this is problematic because I cannot check my email at work. The igoogle I was using to do so no longer works, a change in the gadget or something, so I will be completely and totally without internet unless smaller allows me to use her computer while she's out. So no signing up for
mcshep_match or anything. I... may go mad. So... goodbye until further notice, okay? I'd give you my address and beg for letters only I'm going to move in a month so there's not much point in that either. Take care of yourselves and each other, and don't forget about me. ;)

Date: 2009-06-03 07:29 pm (UTC)Just give us your new address, and make a ninja-like visit to your local library and use the public pc to tell us when you move.
Also, you can get very very good freeware anti-virus. AVG is probably the best.
