Disadvantage of living on my own has finally come into play: watched an episode of NCIS called Mind Games and seriously creeped myself out. All the candles gradually snuffed out one by one as I was watching, and I was a little too involved in the episode to light more; just spent longer than I should've curled up on the couch, not wanting to stand up to go put the light on.

XD

With my mum it's always been putting the TV screen inside a little box she makes with her fingers; with me it's hiding behind a cushion or making the vlc media player really tiiiiny on my computer screen, but first and foremost it's always the feet. Feet off the ground means nothing can get you. Weirdly my mind never linked that up with feet off the ground means kinda helpless...

Possibly I need a new defense mechanism. How do you guys protect yourself from the TV?

I have to make sure my back is to a wall. This makes it impossible to watch Supernatural after dark, because my couch is not against a wall currently. D:

(Of course, sometimes it doesn't help anyway. GHOSTS CAN GO THROUGH WALLS. Where's the salt?)

I try not to watch scary tv alone or in the dark.
If there's no one in the house, then the computer will be on.

So when the axe murder comes through the tv to get me? I'll totally be blogging about it.

OH MAN the guy in that one was so good! gaaahhh I don't blame you for being creeped out.

when things are creepy/gross on the screen, I tend to just hide behind my hands and peek out, but if I'm watching something creepy on my own and am eeked out after, my fix-it is to watch/read something ridiculously adorable. also it helps if, as I'm watching, I've got my back snuggled firmly into the couch/sofa (which in turn is against the wall) and any nearby windows/doors are properly covered and locked. nothing makes my heebies worse than a curtainless window D:

I keep my army boots on-this is partly tv related and also spider scuttling on floor related as I'd freak out a lot more if I had to run for my life in bare feet. Plus my boots are like army tanks so extra muscle there.

Ooh, if I'm about to watch something really scary I get my main knife out and leave it naked on the table within reach. It's quite possible I'm an enormous freak XD

Pausing! During suspense scenes, if I'm watching alone, I hit pause all the TIME. Go do something else for a minute or ten, hit play again, hit pause again in a bit. I think it's a way of proving to my subconscious that this is all fiction, because I have the power to make it stop and go away any time I want to.

Obviously, on a Tivo-less TV this is somewhat harder.
