Step One- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Bassett hound. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special!

Totally want to know if you guys've done this (so long as you've asked for free stuff!); my birthday's coming up as well as Christmas and I think I'm going to be spending my birthday money on travelling and stuff, so I decided to be all selfish and do the meme. :D

Stuff I want!

* Piano music/guitar tablature, or links to sites with free music, because I'm determined to come home with one of them; we have random instruments at home, and at least some of them belong to me.

* Awesome knitting pattern links!

* One of those nifty prettily designed userinfo things that everyone seems to have, and no, I have no idea what you should put on there. I'm not all that interesting...

* Ooh, ooh, a livejournal layout! With some kind of angel/wing/tea/book theme.

* Music you love, along with an explanation why you love it.

* angel art. Non-traditional angel art. NO TWEE! My collection includes a post-it with tiny angels on, bouncing off a lightbulb. I'm not fussed about quality/quantity, here. :D

* Second hand books with things written in the front; whether the stuff is written for me or whether it was bought that way, I don't care. I love other people's margin notes.

* Tea! Especially Mr Scruff English Breakfast tea. IT IS THE BEST TEA IN THE OONIVERSE.

* Postcards/letters!

Are you on www.ravelry.com ? (Social networking sites for yarn aficionados) There are loads of knitting patterns on there.

There's www.knittinghelp.com which has some awesome technique videos and the associated youtube user called 'knittinghelp'.

Other than these, I don't have many knitting sites to recommend, but I do have a wealth of books.

Knitting (on / over / beyond) the edge, all by Nicky Epstein. These have pictures of swatches of various stitch patterns and how to achieve that effect. They are useful if you know the size/shape of something you want to make, but haven't decided (or can't work out how) to do textured stripes, intertwining cables, frilly edges etc.

Knitting Rules! by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. A well known author in the knitting community.

And probably the most useful book ever: Knit Fix, by Lisa Kartus. It shows how to fix some common mistakes when knitting.

I could make you a userinfo banner or layout header if you like? My CSS isn't that great though, so I'd suggest picking something from a layout comm.

Oh, and are you looking for any sheet music in particular?

No, nothing in particular. I got up to grade 5 standard a long time ago and then gave up the piano, and I'd like to at least get up to that level again and then progress possibly, so I want as wide a range as possible. :D

Well most of the free sheet music I know of are video game/anime music arrangements. SquareSound (http://www.squaresound.com/arrangements/index.php) is a good place but most of them are really easy and also short. But it might be good for sight reading?

<a href="http://www.fantasyreborn.com/ffs.html'>Michael Huang</a> has some better arrangements but you need Finale for all of them I think.

[livejournal.com profile] cartonage, [livejournal.com profile] minty_peach, and [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum are all great. I think it was [livejournal.com profile] minty_peach that had a lot of userinfo tables too. If you want to pick one out that you like, I can make you graphics to fit :)

I get all my guitar goodness from here. (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com) There are a few other sites like 911tabs.com, but generally everything eventually appears on UG.
