LJ has annoyed me yet again, by apparently making the move to binary gender to make pitching advertising easier. There are so many things wrong there, better gone into by [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth, [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper and others. I have a DW account I've not really investigated yet, plus an AO3 account, and I'm just... pondering.

[Poll #1499192]

ETA: The issue is resolved, apparently it was an LJ bug and wasn't intended in that way. However the fact that it's so easy to believe is worrying in itself, y'know? I'm not sure I really have all that much confidence in LJ, any more.

Same here. I've also minimized the usefulness of the journal itself on this site. As far as I'm concerned, my LJ is now just a syndicated feed with a lot more features for people who still use LJ.

I don't crosspost because I don't actually use Dreamwidth, uh. Maybe I should start. :|

By 'I don't crosspost' I mean 'I rarely remember I have the DW to use it.' I do crosspost the fic, but not the easy way because I'm crazy like that. XD

DW is for fic! And ficly musing (well, the latter is only in THEORY so far). I should...finish moving my fic across and start fic-and-word-and-lit babbling more.

Unless you're actively using DW for a different thing, or you post a lot of polls, I see zero reason not to crosspost. It's not that hard managing two sets of comments -- it'd be really easy if the DW post showed the LJ comment count, actually, that would make it perfect. As it is, it's nearly so.

I was originally intending to use my LJ for fic and my DW for meta, but this might make me rethink things. Not on, LJ >:-(

The gender thing isn't happening, thank God.

(I chose 'Only have an LJ and I'm happy with it' which isn't quite true. I only have LJ and I've got no plans to get a DW account, but I'm not particularly happy with LJ right now.)

Just so they can aim adverts at people? Wow. Fuckwits. I know a number of people that will be pissed off about this-folks who identify as both or neither and how dare LJ, who always seemed like a haven, decide that now you have no choice but to pick one? So what about the people who are born into a body that has a different gender to the mind? Do they have to go with biological or mental or wtf? At least put in an option for other!

I've set my gender to unspecified while I still can, even though I'm mostly het, identify as the same gender as my body, etc. Hopefully loads others with do the same.

I don't have dreamwidth yet and it says I have to 'buy a code' if I want to join :-( But I'm tempted by the idea of DW more and more.

*nods* The fact that it got that far in the process (when it's posted to changelog, it's going to be actual code in the next push!) without anyone knowing about it is itself evidence of a major clusterbungle. Our user rep [livejournal.com profile] kylecassidy had no idea that this was taking place until he heard by word-of-mouth what was going on.

Someday I will get around to bothering to crosspost with my DW, but I have not yet. I got it mostly to comment on people's DWs, and to keep in touch with the people who've migrated over; if they don't crosspost, I tend to forget to do that, though. *sheepish* I have a hard time keeping up with more than one journal at once.

(I also made another DW with the idea that I would start it as a separate, more blog-style journal. Since it has all of 0 posts on it... yeah, that plan went well!)

It's not being pushed forward which is great-but it does seem awfully convenient that it was just 'some bug'. I don't know, maybe LJ deserves the benefit of the doubt here-but it does seem like some major covering up to me. The way LJ has been acting over these past couple of years just makes this so credible-and the claim that it was all a misunderstanding really unlikely.

O well. DW here I come!

I crosspost. But pretty much all my reading of people is done at LJ. Oh, and I don't bother to send my Twitter feed to Dreamwidth. Mostly, I wish more of the folks on my flist here would crosspost to both places. I use LJ *ALL THE TIME*, but for reading what's going on with my friends here, not really for posting. If they were all on Dw, I'd probably use LJ a HECK of a lot less. Which I wish I could do because I trust management less & less with every announcement.
