I will say this for the waterbed: it creates some truly magnificent bed hair.

On another note entirely, I do wish people would stick with relatively minor author's notes in comms. Extended author's notes can take place when people have actually chosen to click on the link/lj-cut/whatever, but there just seems to be such self-involvement in the belief that every person reading a comm needs to know about your process and whether your cat affected it, or whatever.

Sorry, was that too curmudgeonly? I slept ever so comfortably and long last night; I am bitter about having to get up. I resent that people expect me to be vertical quite so often.

Nope! I like to make things above cuts as short and concise as possible. I think there's a lot more chance people will read it if it's not tl;dr. Rambly things I usually put after the art, so it's easy to skip if people aren't interested.

I've always wanted to try a waterbed but I'm afraid I like to bounce on beds too much.

Yeah, at least for the first time you check someone out. I mean, long notes on a journal are fine, because there is an assumption that people are following your palavers, but I am so very much less likely to check out someone's work if they are forcing details down my throat.

The waterbed is so odd. It's allowing me the deepest and most comfortable sleeps I've ever had, I'll admit, and once I'm asleep it's wonderful. It's odd to wake up in the same position I fell asleep in. But it's not good for those times I can't sleep, nor is it good for lounging and reading... but in the long run that's probably a benefit for me... XD

No, I agree. Of course, I also make disapproving faces when people post their headers in a different font size/color from the comm standard, or use a story banner image for every new update of a frequently updated story, so I'm probably firmly in curmudgeon territory myself.

Oh lord, whyyyy would people change the font? It's such an attention seeking thing, a wanting to be remembered thing, which I totally GET but I'd rather be remembered 'cos my fic was awesome than because I made your eyes bleed. XD

Some day I will write again...

This is how I feel about movie titles before the movie. Like, the long ones that don't just tell you some of the principal cast but things like the costume designer. Excuse me, I haven't seen ANY costumes yet, what makes you think I give a toss who designed them? I don't even know if they're any good!

Hee! I kind of like them on old fashioned movies, though, the technicolor ones. It's like... these people are important enough that we want you to know their names; we know you won't bother to stay for the credits. But I can totally see where you're coming from.

Oh so much agreed. Note spoilers, a challenge, briefly thank a beta--that's all fine and should be publicised, but rambles about process should be kept to your own lj, definitely.

More like this (http://community.livejournal.com/kissmeprobie/163973.html?mode=reply). She does it every time and it just implies such longing for BNF status. (At least in this one she's not going on about how many comments she gets...)

That one was edited down after I linked you. It was ridiculous, to begin with.

Not too mudgey at all. I try to keep any a/ns to a minimum and let the story speak for itself.

Also, I try to keep nonessential HTML to a minimum (no fancy fonts; just the odd em or strong tag as required). I don't want to be That Guy whose readers curse them for forcing them to use style=mine or format=light so their eyes don't bleed.

I quite agree. Not only is it kind of annoying, but it's a very fast way to make me scroll right past your brick of text. An author's note in a comm -- unless it's the kind of comm in which you post your entire fic rather than a link -- should be just enough to provide people with enough information to decide if they want to click.

However, I am also sulky about being vertical, so perhaps we can be curmudgeonly together.

Aaw, I will always take great pleasure in being curmudgeonly with you. ♥

But yeah, it seems like an active effort to put people off, sometimes, especially if the author's notes talk about how many comments they got/expect to get. XD
