nnyOkay. Simple simple words.
A large part of why kids' behaviour sucks in school is because they have NO RESPONSIBILITY for ANYTHING. Education needs to STOP removing accountability. If their attitude to learning is shit, teachers totally do have to take steps to find out why, but sometimes the reason is just that they are a little git and need to shape up.
Kids need to have learning that gives them some idea of the impact of their actions. Learning should not take place in a fucking vaccuum, kids need to see real world applications for what they do. They need to have some idea of consequences.
Also? It would be good if you gave them the Wii, the iPad and the iPod Touch on seperate birthdays, or encouraged them to get a job or something, I'm just saying. This is how we get into credit situations, when people believe they should get everything right now without having to work long and hard for it first.
I am going to actually start thinking about solutions to all the stuff I keep bitching about, by the way. I want to do a Masters, desperately; I'd love to do it in English Language but corpuses of data make me want to kill myself hard in the face, and linguistic analysis is painful. I like details about anthropology and language evolution, and I can't afford a Masters anyway, so maybe it's better to go the education route and see what research I can do that might actually have an impact and might get partially funded.
I wish I was clever enough to deal with this shit.
