13. What is your earliest memory?
Guildenstern: What's the first thing you remember?
Rosencrantz: [thinks] No, it's no good. It was a long time ago.
Guildenstern: No, you don't take my meaning. What's the first thing you remember after all the things you've forgotten?
Rosencrantz: Oh, I see... I've forgotten the question.
My brain doesn't work in a way that allows this question. Everything in my past happened in 1995. There's a jumble of stuff without any particular delineation, and I don't necessarily know what happened earlier and what later; I suppose the presence or absence of my little sister makes things a little easier, but I was already almost 9 at that point. I remember reading off a Peter Rabbit plate and my friend's mum being startled at how well I could read, so I suppose I must have been young for a reader, but I have no idea when that might have been. We'll go with that one, though, for the sake of ease.
