It's so weird - apocalypse AUs ought to be my very favourite thing, since I love TEAMS and RELYING ON PEOPLE and ACTION and WORLD BUILDING and HEIGHTENED EMOTIONS, and I ridiculously love the trope of the hero pushed to epic levels of exhaustion but still struggling through anyway. But mostly I steer well clear of them; I think it's the fact that no matter how happy the ending of the story is I find it hard to see the ending as being sustainably happy, which is kind of important, for me.

I don't suppose anyone could recommend any that meet that criterion? Published fic, films, comics, fanfiction, whatever...

(The reason I ask is I'm reading this Teen Wolf AU, Monster at the End of the Book by Kellifer_fic with gorgeous art by Maichan 808. It's pretty damned epic so far).

Oh gosh ... do I need to also talk you into reading 7 Seeds .... I feel redundant because I go on about it so much in my DW entries, but it is exactly all these things you have specified! It's not finished yet, but I do think the ending will be both happy and sustainably happy, since the point of the series is ~humanity's unquenchable spirit~ and building a future.

Weirdly enough, top of my list is Day of the Triffids. That one SGA story with the earth plague and all the ptsd, too.
