Today I did 6 hours of digitisation/metadata creation/cataloguing (including side-quests like finding out who the mayor was in 1971), which I get paid for, followed by 4 hours of coding (12 pages down, 5 to go!), which I do not, and now I'm pondering whether to apply for a third job.

It... sounds like you maybe have enough on your plate for three people right now, and a third job might be better left? But if you need it, or it will give you good experience and you feel you have time and energy...
