Hi hi! So I figured I owed some kind of update on my life, right? :) I've been mostly unavailable through social media means for the past two weeks, partly because my laptop is touchy and irritable and close to an irreversible breakdown, partly because the new iPad I ordered (with impending birthday money, and my second to last gift to myself before I have paid everyone I owe money back) won't be delivered for a while yet.

Mostly, though, it's because I'm actually pretty happy right now.

For the last four months, up until two weeks ago, I was in a job that was tiding me over, living in a house with someone who had always been better as a slightly more distant friend. We get on absolutely fine, provided we only hang out once a month or so. He's a lovely person but he's also passive aggressive and somewhat misanthropic, and it got to the point where I could feel my shoulders tensing up every time I heard him moving around the house, in case I'd accidentally done something - like stacking the dishwasher not quite right - that'd have him huffing and tense for hours. I was apathetic on social media but was spending hours scrolling through Tumblr because I needed the vague validation that comes from likes and reblogs. Add to that the huge homophobic rant from students of mine that left me sobbing and chucking them out of the classroom, and I needed something new.

So I've moved to Nottingham where I'm technically self employed, working as an intervention literacy teacher with very small groups of low-level year 7s. I've also proposed that I do some extra-curricular work with top year 7s, too, boosting through creative-writing, and that's been tentatively approved for the new year. At the moment my contract's 'til March, but there are already hints of more work coming up after, and right now I'm seriously loving the independence of it all, and can already see tangible benefits to what I'm doing.

The living situation is pretty amazing, too. Having a fandom housemate is wonderful, no need to excuse the hours hunched over a laptop, or the appalling porn you left open on your Kindle, and there's someone to watch ridiculous episodes of ridiculous TV with. On a personal level, too, so far we're meshing well; it's only been two weeks of course, so chickens remain uncounted, but our housework styles and likes seem to be complementary. It's nice living with a dog, too - can't help but feel loved when something backs up and sits heavily on your feet just to prevent you going back upstairs and leaving him alone. :D I've started walking him Thursday and Friday mornings before my housemate is up, and it's kind of incredibly lovely and I'm hoping it continues. I like the subtle bullying, too, the competition she's decided to start to eat our five a day; I'm already feeling healthier just being in this situation, and although I'm not sure quite how it'll manifest yet I feel inspired to exercise more.

So I've asked for an extension and I'm scrapping the three crappy beginnings I'd attempted for my GO exchange fic and starting something slightly more ambitious and fun, I'm going to tick off everything not already completed on my to-do list, and I'm planning to book a new tattoo. Oh, and message back all the terrible prospects I've been talking to on OKCupid, too.

So yeah, I'm pretty good. How are you?

You're in Nottingham? HI. Want to meet for coffee or something?

Life sounds really good for you. And dogs are wonderful for making you feel adored - they're always so happy to be around you.

Yayyys! I am so glad to hear the good news - you've found an AWESOME place to live, and it makes me terribly happy to hear that human and canine interaction both is going well! I hope contract things and other such stuff gets settled soon, but for now it really does seem like you've got a good thing going. Fingers crossed for everything else!

This post makes me so happy. Yay, yay, yay! May everything continue on these trends. <333

I'm doing quite well! This past weekend was Thanksgiving in the US, so I had a marvelous low-key holiday full of lounging in front of fireplaces, and I really don't want to be back at work, but otherwise I'm good. *grin*
