nnyA couple of incomplete thoughts about Age of Ultron; obviously spoilers abound.
* The foreshadowing of Clint's death was a work of genius. Every clue was there - the sudden addition of family, the mentor-speech, the future planning, the moment of realisation... and then to have him saved at the last moment by a character we barely know. It was a really effective way of giving Piotr's death an emotional impact it wouldn't otherwise have had, and it was good work.
* Joss's storytelling impresses me because there's little that's extraneous. I loved that the Mjolnir scene, silly and funny and adorably team-bondy as it is, had a deeper purpose of giving them an instant means of trusting The Vision without hours of dialogue. It's neat and well thought out and I was impressed.
* On the note of the Mjolnir scene, something that Marvel knows and DC really doesn't is that in order to make us cry you really need to make us laugh. Unrelenting grimdark does nothing for me, but make me laugh and I am at your emotional mercy.
* The equation of Natasha being sterile and being a monster was fucking awful, thoughtless, and I really hope an unintentional direct association. It was a jarring and painful moment in an otherwise seriously enjoyable film, and I am angry about it.
On a lighter note:
* I'm underconvinced on the whole Natasha/Bruce front, and only part of the reason is slashy.
* Robert Downey Jr is playing Tony Stark as bisexual, wonderfully, and no one will convince me otherwise.
* Obviously, they created the perfect body and it was played by Paul Bettany. I agree with this choice.
* Ultron was able to emote too much through facial expression. His voice was enough. I disagree with this one.
* HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA GOLLUM.
* Wakanda was an interesting mention. That's where Black Panther's from, no?
* BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE why would you hurt me like this
* THE ELEVATOR IS NOT WORTHY
* The new line-up of the Avengers is a good one, but man that film needed more Sam. OTOH I LOVE THAT HE IS SEARCHING FOR BUCKY YESSSSSSSS
