nny: (away team)
You know, you guys should totally contribute drabbles FOR THE AWAY TEAM. So far I've written... one about Star Wars: the musical, I dream of Johnnie, one about Ascended Rodney, one dead!Rodney and one deaf!Rodney.

I have to go whump John some, I think.

Drabbles!

Okay, when it starts getting biblical you know it's time to give up for the night. XD

(All of these were prompted by - and contain - lines from other drabbles. Therefore none of it is my fault!)

nny: (I can feel you on my back)
I've been reading a lot of posts about feminism lately, but I think the link that has hit me hardest is this article on men who patronise.

"...billions of women are out there on this 6-billion-person planet being told that they are not reliable witnesses to their own lives, that the truth is not their property, now or ever."

It describes my two flatmates perfectly, see, and that's been driving me mad for months now.

See, the thing is, if I want to engage in discussion with them I must be absolutely right in every way. I must know my facts perfectly and have my arguments sorted out, otherwise I'm just metaphorically petted on the head for trying to talk to the Menfolk. Needless to say, their mistakes are either brushed off or 'misunderstandings' on my part.

The second, related aspect to this is that I cannot ever call them on their behaviour and have them take me seriously because they interact with my labels and not with me. First and foremost, they interact with me as a bisexual and as a feminist, something I rarely call myself but clearly am - and the fact that they label me as a feminist, something definitively negative in their heads, merely because I correct some of their assumptions/language/behaviour at times is a whole other argument - and not just as a person with an opinion.

I should... clarify this, post with links and stuff, but I have no one to talk it through with and thoughts just bouncing around inside my own head only ever come out garbled. Someday I'll have to train myself not to get freaked out by AIM.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] unamaga linked me to this, and apparently he's considered something of an expert and has followers. I am very, very serious about this: Can we have him killed?

Please note: I am hoping like hell that someone will tell me that this is some enormous piss take and I've been suckered. Seriously. But - from the amount of websites, from wikipedia, it's not looking like it.

I got tagged for this absolutely ages ago by [livejournal.com profile] phoenixchilde and I was so thrilled at actually being tagged for a meme that I... completely forgot to do it. Heh.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs.

I'm not sure about 'shaping my spring' because I'm really not sure that spring actually exists, yet, although the sun on my shoulder is attempting to change my mind.

1. Glass of Water by Andrew Bird.
Andrew Bird is an exceedingly talented musician and I only have a few tracks by him but this one is, at present, my favourite; it reminds me of bright colours and pixar and couples dancing with bizarre footwork.

2. Raga Jhinjhoti (Drut Teentaal Gat) by Aditya Verma.
I'm really not sure where this one came from - possibly [livejournal.com profile] ileliberte? - but it showed up on my iPod one day while I was sitting on a bench at the university in the sun, watching the boy ducks chasing the girl ducks and the boy students chase the girl students and sometimes the boy ducks chase the girl students, and laughing quietly to myself at the ridiculousness of the world. It's very different from the majority of the music that I have, and it both distracted me from and centered me in the world so that I couldn't concentrate on people watching or book reading, and instead had to drape myself across the bench and watch clouds float across the sky.

3. Outlandish 3 by Tobias Roberson.
Because not everyone classifies 'music' the same way and this makes me want to dance like nothing else. I got this from [livejournal.com profile] unamaga, it's from an album called Le Serpent Rouge which is different and incredible in its entirety.

4. Back From Space by Amon Tobin.
Another slightly different version of 'music' and no better description than epic. This is atmospheric in that it creates a whole world of noise, and if you listen to it alone in the dark you could easily believe you were somewhere else entirely. This was the first track I heard by Amon Tobin, and now I have... six albums? Something of a fan.

5. A Punk by Vampire Weekend.
And an abrupt shift in mood, here. This song has the cutest video in the world, which is the first point in its favour and the reason it came to my attention; it's also relentlessly upbeat and I use it for my alarm on my phone because there is no way that a day that starts with this song can begin badly.

6. Someone Great by LCD Soundsystem.
This one is different to my usual tastes, but it's - it's more about the fact that my little sister loves it, and has wildly different tastes to me but we respect each other's taste, and we get on better and better with time, and she's evolving into this incredibly awesome person who I am seriously proud to be related to, and she made me a CD and that makes me happy. :) Also, the song is exceeding good.

7. Laugh by Incredible G.
*giggles helplessly* Um. This is a techno remix that my little sister made of my laugh when she was 11. I rediscovered it recently and it just makes me laugh so very much that I really had to include it. Possibly the only laugh more embarrassing is this one.

Let me know what you like!

...I feel guilty rewashing clothes without wearing them. Next time remind me that guilt < fucking ALLERGIES.

I am a big ball of incredibly miserable ITCHY. Now I'm going to attempt to work out through smell alone which of my clothes are safe.

If I end up with an itchy face from all the sniffin's I'm going to KILL SOMETHING.
