Y'know, the longer you go without posting, the harder it is to think of things to make posts about. I have the internet at present at my parents' house, but other than a review of Bill Bryson's latest I have next to nothing to say. This is not to say that things haven't been happening, merely that I can't conceive of an interesting way to frame them.

Bah.

I didn't all that much, actually. There was a lot of information in there, and it was definitely an interesting read, but the framing device was a weak one that often seemed an afterthought, the humour was missing, the anecdotes were often rather meandering and it didn't show the faintly bemused affection that I've tended to get from his books. It's not one I'm going to read over and over; I would say it's worth reading, but I don't know if I'm glad I bought it rather than getting it from a library. There are better books I could've spent the ten pounds on.

:/

Hmmm, thanks for the heads up. I think I'll wait and see on "At Home". I really enjoyed his early travel writing and I loved "A Short History of Nearly Everything", but some of Bryson's recent stuff has fallen flat for me -- "Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" didn't do much for me at all.
