Ah, but not liking yourself is WHY one writes Mary Sues! You write the perfect character who is beautiful and smart and talented and is without character flaw, then you let her do all the things you wish YOU could do, like go on a magical adventure where she saves the world. And all the while you're like, "Wow she's so cool I wish I could be like her." *g*

And no, you're definitely not the only one who's never written a Mary-Sue. My very first fanfic was an all-canon cast adventure story, and my first naughty fanfic slashed two eccentric middle-aged assassins ;-)

Maybe we've got some sort of psychic link, because for no reason I woke up in the same mood. Everything is fucked, and yet nothing is particularly noteworthy. I've been trying to distract myself with silly fics. wikdsushi on bad 'Forever Knight'.

No, you're not the only one. I've never written a Mary Sue. I went straight to slash, or at least to buddy, hurt-comfort fics, because I was too young to have a firm handle on sex when I started writing. Never had the urge to insert a Mary Sue. Most of my female characters, on their rare appearances, are beautiful but really fucked up.
