I love looking at people's icons, but I don't always *get* them - I often wonder stuff like, "Who's that guy?" or "Where's that quote from?" but I tend not to ask, for various reasons. So come on, here are my icons. Pick one (or more!) you're curious about, and I'll try to explain it. Or at least explain what I like about it. Deal?

Filched from [livejournal.com profile] copinggoggles, because I am temporarily without fic to post.

Hooo boy, the guy in front of me smells of weed. Subtle, man.

They're all really arty, I bet lots don't even have explanations.

What does the 'santa is real' icon have to do with copperbadge?

*leaps in* I took the photo and made the icon -- she's just crediting me, there. :) (It's from a graffiti stenciled on the pedestrian detour in the north end of Boston, just south of Haymarket.)

I knew I recognized it.

He made it. That is all. :D

However, if you want a reason I make up, then it is because he reminds me of Calvin. And Calvin is big with the denial.

Oooh, an excuse to look through your new icons! :-D

Where'd this one (http://www.livejournal.com/userpic/18441172/1161698) come from?

That came from [livejournal.com profile] basicbases, and was on a website of random graffiti around... Manhattan? Possibly? The little notepaper ones came from there, too. They were my favourites.

Nny, I wanna know, how'd you come up with the idea for a graffiti theme, and where'd you find 'em all? I know some of them are by...wossisname....

Um, well I love my notepaper graffiti ones (like this) and I've long been an admirer of Banksy, even if he is a bit of a git. I think graffiti has a lot to say, if you look beyond the endless tags.

There a load of cool sites... http://www.graffiti.org/ is spectacular, with a lot of photos hosted there and a whole bunch of off-site links, too. I mean, you need to sort through a hell of a lot of tags to find cool stuff- personally I like stencils best- but there's a lot of interesting stuff there.

Riding the metro way out north out of DC, there's a big wall with a huge message in graffiti - I can't remember the exact wording, but it's something along the lines of "Don't hate me for this, I just need to express my art, and I wanted to make you smile during your commute."

All of your icons are so cool and so original! I especially like the angel one. Where was the art at?

Banksy uses stencils, so he's done it in a couple of places. He used to be based in Bristol, but seems to have moved his base of operations to London, though he's not limited to those places.

There's a better pic of the angel there, plus a link to his website. ;)

The pure evil one -- is that supposed to be a certain animal, do you think, or just a random three-legged thing? (Because actually I find it cute.)

Haven't a clue. Maybe it's a vicious polar bear.
