This is just... the perfect Good Omens fic, in my opinion. It's subtle, and so very canon-based, and sad without being angsty. More... subtly wistful. And yet not, quite. There's happiness and friendship in there too. Short and lovely, and I'm just so glad I've read it. So I think you should too.

Aria is all sorts of nifty.

Even if it IS her fault that "Rubber Ducky, You're The One" has been playing in my head for most of the last twenty-four hours.

Lovely, except...

Now that you've entrenched Mr. Bettany as THE Aziraphale, it's awfully hard to picture him short and pudgy...

Aaw, thankee.

I have a number of Aziraphales in my head, personally; my Aziraphael, much as I'd like him to be, is not a patch on the book Aziraphale.

And, see, the only reason this bothers me?

Is that I don't have an mp3 of it.

Aww. I'll... try to find it? Perhaps. Am not sure how to go about looking, really.

If it makes you feel any better, it's stuck in my head now too. XD

Sorry I don't have a LiveJournal, but I've been amusing myself at work reading the Incredibly True Adventures of Two Ethereals in Love at Milliways, and... can no longer quite agree with your self-deprecating assessment, because, well... snark and poetry= happy reading me.

Speaking of the poety, have you seen Auden's "Postscript (Ariel to Caliban. Echo by the Prompter)"? I stumbled across it this past weekend and ralized that Milliways may have eaten my brain. To the extent that I was indignant that someone was conflating Crowley and Caliban. And then realized that someone was me. Doh.

I haven't, actually, but if you could point me in that direction I'd be most grateful. Any new poetry is good. I found poetry.org the other day and bounced madly - I've been mostly relying on my well-thumbed Norton and the various books I have lying about.

Ermmm.... Google is failing me, as is Amazon's "search inside this book." I suspect he's one of those too-recently-dead authors with litigious estates.

I'll be happy to type it in for you once I'm home and have the book in front of me.

Here you are...

Postscript
(ARIEL to Caliban. Echo by the PROMPTER)

Weep no more but pity me,
Fleet persistent shadow cast
By your lameness, caught at last,
Helplessly in love with you,
Eligance, art, fascination,
Fascinated by
Drab mortality;
Spare me a humiliation,
To your faults be true:
I can sing as you reply
. . . I

Wish for nothing lest you mar
The perfection in these eyes
Whose entire devotion lies
At the mercy of your will;
Tempt not your sworn comrade, --only
As I am can I
Love you as you are--
For my company be lonely
For my health be ill:
I will sing if you will cry
. . . I

Never hope to say farewell,
For our lethargy is such
Heaven's kindness cannot touch
Nor earth's frankly brutal drum;
This was long ago decided,
Both of us know why,
Can, alas, foretell,
When our falsehoods are divided,
What we shall become,
One evaporating sigh
. . I

-W.H. Auden

(So, not so much the first stanza, but the second two. Aaaaaaand.... I can't make the indents take, but the 6th, 7th, and 9th lines of each are indented, and the "...I" echoes are justified right in the text.)

Thank you so much! Wow, I do like that. Shall have to use it at some point. *grins*

Out of interest, however did you come across milliways if you have no livejournal? The idea that we have watchers boggles my mind, a little, partly because it must be such a challenge to follow.

Ummm.... let's see. The short answer is, I was poking around chicklit.com one day and saw a thread devoted to fan fiction, of which I had read none, but about which I was curious. Something they recommended was in some way linked to Stealing Harry, and I took to reading Sam's LJ in search of other treasures. The mention some time back of "fucked-up gay interspecies sex" in apparent relation to Remus and Lord Peter Wimsey (of all people) made me click on the Milliways link, and years of habit as a reader and a, um... want to say researcher, but that implies a professionalism that it shouldn't... let's say a somewhat compulsive tracker-downer of information pertaining to pop culture that catches my fancy/interest... led me to keep poking around until I had something of a handle on what, the hell, the whole thing was about.

I do not, in any way, follow the whole thing. I am vastly uninterested in huge swaths of characters, but I love witty banter and mythological playfulness, so I'm quite taken with the A/C interaction.

There are longer answers I could make, but that's the bare bones of it.
