Man I have a case of the serious P.M. Twibbles. Everything seems to be hurting steadily more which is stupid and contrary of my body, and no one is near enough for hugs. Lonely hormones are the worst sort, pretty sure of it.

In other news, I've been reading Skulduggery Pleasant, anyone else read? I've got up to the third book and am waiting for the others to be unoccupied and returned to the library. (If a book is good you do not read it, okay, you live in it.) Trying to decide what my adopted name ought to be.

I've read the first three Skulduggery Pleasant books and like them exceedingly. Did you ever watch 'Remington Steel' back in the 80s? Because the books are JUST LIKE Remington Steel, only with magic, and with the central bantery duo being a skeleton and a little girl.

(Presently reading Megan Whalen Turner's 'The King of Attolia', having already read books 1,2 and 4. Have been wolfing my way ravenously through it all evening, and am trying to convince myself that sleep is the way forward, and that I don't have to mainline the whole damn book in one sitting.)

I never did watch! I had no idea I ought to be so sad about that - it sounds awesome. I love the ridiculous levels of snark in Skulduggery Pleasant. Tanith Low is HOT, and I adore her relationship with Val.

I think my adopted name would be something like Loquacious Keen, but I kind of want something more piratical. I guess Captain Keen would work? XD

I have only read the first of MWT's books. I really liked, but not enough to chase it up; I'm guessing I should? I just bought a book by Charlie Brooker and some book that has a recommendation by PG Wodehouse on the front.

I liked 'The Thief' well enough, but 'The Queen of Attolia' is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. It opens up the world and the characters and presents us with a relationship which is absolutely not what I was expecting to see at all, and I absofuckinglutely adored the living hell out of it. I ship...well, I'll not tell you, but I ship them like crazy. Most interesting canonical 'ship I've happened across in Quite Some Time.

Remington Steele featured a bantery dynamic duo of a very competent PI and the smooth-talking, charming, mysterious conman with a heart of gold who steps in to pretend to be her nonexistant male boss, for this was the 80s, and sexism was much less subtle. Its bantery romantic swashbuckling sensibility recalls Katherine Hepburn movies.

Captain Loquacious Keen is a BRILLIANT name.

JUMPING IN to second this rec. The Thief, while a lot of fun itself, is miles below Queen of Attolia in depth and complexity, which again is miles below King of Attolia in depth and complexity. THEY ARE BRILLIANT.

I love Tanith. I've just gotten through the fourth book; I don't want to spoiler anyone, but. My respect for Tanith increased a LOT, and I want to see recovery fic that doesn't shrink away from Issues, my God. rawr.

I've read up to Dark Days of the Skulduggery Pleasant books!

I've found them to be consistently entertaining, fast-paced and a mix of obvious-and-not-obvious twists.
