can anyone recommend any free and downloadable anti-virus and/or popup blocking thingers?

I pity my poor unprotected computer. It's already seen unwarranted boobage!

Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) and Adaware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5) will remove nasty things installed by nasty websites. Run them once a month and your pooter will be clean as a whistle. Also Trend Micro (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)'s free virus and spyware scanners are fantabulous but you'll need to use IE to get it to work. If you're not already, use Firefox or Opera instead of IE for everything else :p

Hows things? :)

Google's great for pop-up blocking, apparently - there's a link to download the toolbar on the main google homepage.

Google, great in all things *nods*
