It sounds about the size of the carpenter wasps that used to invade one of the houses I grew up in.

*shudders*

I fear wasps. There used to be a wasps nest that led into my room - we killed fourteen in there in a week, but I think it was more to do with a book called... uh... rebel fairy? Something like that, I don't remember. It was by Lynne Reid Banks and it was one of those children's books that are far more creepifying than they ought to be. Also, I've never been stung; terror of the unknown. XD

Oo, Lynne's Indian in the Cupboard series is fab.

I have only been stung once in my life, by a wasp. I broke out in hives for about three days down the side of the leg I'd been stung on, which conveniently showed that I'm mildly allergic. I have been spending the better part of the ten years since then avoiding getting stung.

ARRGH! Same here -- never been stung, and I am sooo phobic of anything that stings. I would have to leave the room, probably trembling and screaming, until someone had gone in and made absolutely sure she was gone or dead.

NOT my favorite first thing of spring!

PS: It's a queen. Be nice to her, she has a colony to start and she's probably really hungry.
