Still ficcing merrily away. Distractions, however, are always welcomed.

*ponders*

Er... an easy meme. Ask me a question and I will answer honestly.

Unless the answer impacts on more than just myself, you know how it is. :)

Oh! And I forgot to say, you're welcome to go anonymous.

I shall ask more than one

Because I, too, am bored.

1. What's this fic about? Is it fan or original?

2. What do you find most difficult about writing? Easiest?

3. Is there a particular form of literature you'd like to try your hand at (poetry, articles, whatever) but feel you can't? If so, why?

4. How badly does *mine* suck?

5. Favourite folk tales?

6. WHY ISN'T IT LUNCHTIME YET?

Gracious.

1. It's a Good Omens fanfic, which is essentially immediately post-canon vaguely fluffy dealings. I had intended to be writing a Milliways AU in which Aziraphael fell and brought Lucifer terribly messy presents, but my brain revolted and beat me into submission with snarking and sweetness. Damn brain.

2. I find editing most difficult. Mostly I type things directly into the update box and post and run away. It's very very rare that I will actually save things and go back to them later, because on rereading I tend to think it sucks. Easiest is definitely dialogue; I have a talent for character voice, which is something I've just recently started admitting to myself.

3. I want to write stories. With plot, and length, and suchlike. Only I'm absolutely dreadful at planning and maintaining interest for that long.

4. I don't actually know. I'm horrible! I don't read nearly as much as I ought to, although I've read some of your longer posts and your style of writing is certainly intriguing enough and grammatically correct enough that I suspect I'd enjoy it. You have anything you'd like to recommend to me?

5. Hmm. That's an interesting one, actually. I always liked... um. Very simplistic ones, about taking a horse to market and meeting a faery in the path, that sort of thing. The kind that come in big anthologies and are never interesting enough to get sugar added by Disney.

6. It totally is! Even though I'm eating breakfast!

1. You ARE going to post that when you're done, right? ;)

2. Editing is an evil whore. I spent god knows how long trying to get the hang of that, and IMO the only way you can do it effectively is with someone helping you and bringing you tea when you start screaming "WHY DID I WRITE THIS SHITE" and pointing out that it's not really that bad. And, you do. You really do.

3. Writing ahead with scenes that come in later on seems to help with this.

4. Heh, the most popular stuff thus far as been the joint nano project with Z (http://community.livejournal.com/2soldiersinlove/profile), and the twins (http://community.livejournal.com/100originalfics/tag/hamiltwins) (more of that, longer ones, on [livejournal.com profile] fuckfiction. I write Harry Potter fanfic only rarely and it's usually disgusting and unreadable and wrong and headdesky.

5. Ayeaye. I've always been fond of the Russian and Norwegian ones myself - the ones with the Really Scary Witches and trolls and where the hero is always called Vassily.

6. My watch says I have half an hour yet! My stomach is going GRRRRMMMMRRRR!

HEE! There was a villain in the X-Files once called Vassily Peskov, who my mother insisted on referring to as 'Severely Pissedoff'.

And I'm absolutely going to post it when I'm done.

Cookie:

"I do not love you except because I love you."

"…what?"

"Neruda." Aziraphale nodded at the book he had in his hand, and Crowley thankfully dropped his gaze, his brain making entirely unhelpful noises. "It goes on the second shelf to your left, somewhere between that book on pottery and Being and Nothingness. If you would?"

"Right." He looked vaguely at the book for a second or two longer, then went over to shove it on the bookshelf. "And what," regaining composure, which was rather easier with his back turned, "kind of cataloguing system is that, anyway? How's anyone supposed to find anything?"

The stool clattered across the floor, and Crowley turned to face the angel, who was a good deal closer than he'd been.

"If people only looked where they ought to be looking, my dear boy, they'd only ever find what they thought they wanted. This way, they might well find what they actually need."

Crowley blinked. Sometimes sunglasses were a ble- a very good thing.

"Yeah, that or you're just being a contrary b- "

"Now now, Crowley." The laughter in his voice was considerably more pronounced. "There's no need for language like that."

Oh, and also?

Writing ahead would be ace. Only... I seem to only be able to write in order. I will work on this. I have snippets of dialogue and the like that'll come later in this fic, but I can't write 'em yet.

I MIGHT JINX IT!

hah, oh. I find that sometimes writing those bits and then stringing them together helps move you past difficult scenes. And sometimes, you can just leave out the intervening bits!

*is shit at scene changes*

*glee* EEEH. Neruda!

I may yet name a character Vassily. It has ingrained cultural resonance, rather like "Jack", which I always thought of as a title more than a name. You have to EARN "Jack".

*stares at first question's response*

Ooooh, story! *bounces* Will we eventually get to see Aziraphael's messy presents for Lucifer, too? I admit am deeply fascinated and more deeply terrified by fallen Aziraphale stories. I blame Ganster No. 1.

Hmmm, questions. In the interest of actually getting a question out before I have to leave for work, I'm recycling one I have attacked with on another question meme and liked a lot. :D If you could have a perfect photograph of anything, anywhere, any time, what/who would it be?

...*giggles in faintly horrified manner* Um. Possibly?

Um... Aziraphale and Crowley feeding the ducks? Does that count?

I don't know, really. I mean, most of the subjects with which I'm fascinated are entirely fictional. I'm not huge on history because I never continued with it and don't know nearly enough about Momentous Events to say something hugely deep and meaningful at this point.

I'd kinda like a photo of the Sphinx with its nose. And possibly before, too, since it's been speculated that it was originally a larger statue - the head is out of proportion with the rest of the body so it was possibly Egyptians putting their mark on something from before.

I dunno. I'll keep thinking about this.

I'm gonna find Simon Pegg and hide behind him. And possibly raid his tea supplies and play Resident Evil or whatever with him, with the curtains shut, until the danger's over.

Oh, I'd say that counts. I did say it could be anywhere. ;) I have a similar problem with this question and I still haven't come up with my own answer, so it feels like I'm cheating a little. There's a lot I'd really like to see, but as far as all-consuming passion for a historical moment, not so much.

Anyway. How're you? :]

I am actually grand, and writing hard. I'm on page 7 and I only started last night, which to me is SO COOL. And I really like it so far, too.

As far as jobs go... well. We'll just sidestep that issue, shall we? XD

How's your fine self?

YAY! That is so good to hear. Fic, fic, fic. I did a little work last night on one that I should by rights have finished ages ago, but as usual I wasn't home till late and it's hard to focus under the circumstances. One of these days the rest of it will no doubt leap into my head at the most inconvenient time possible.

I'm doing pretty well, given the time of day. ;) Though my own job as of last night is making me want to storm out in a dramatic huff. I suppose that would be counterproductive. They've set a presentation that I absolutely have to participate in right in the middle of Millicon, and after all the careful arranging I've done to make sure nothing screwed with those dates I am unbelievably frustrated. I'm trying to think of a way to get out of it, but I would have to call in dead to miss it - it's a report out on something we've been working on for a year, and the group we're presenting to won't meet again for another 2 months.

I am tempted to go to the Firefly dictionary and spend today muttering choice phrases in Mandarin. I think this would be a productive use of my time. :>

I'm not scared of you.

I so absolutely was, but that was just... I dunno. I think it was a depression thing that I'm getting over. I was so fucking bad at seeing things from someone else's perspective. I'm totally working at it, and I'm totally doing better at it, but it's something I still have trouble with.

I had trouble seeing past the front, and the capslock, and the simmering rage that seemed to come across, although it doesn't nearly so much as it did, any more. And that made me wary of talking to you, which meant I never did see past that. My being scared of you was fucking stupid, and I'm really glad it's past.

'cos you fucking rock.
