Apr. 13th, 2006 12:00 pmStill ficcing merrily away. Distractions, however, are always welcomed.

Er... an easy meme. Ask me a question and I will answer honestly.
Unless the answer impacts on more than just myself, you know how it is. :)
Oh! And I forgot to say, you're welcome to go anonymous.

Re: I shall ask more than one
Date: 2006-04-13 04:17 am (UTC)1. It's a Good Omens fanfic, which is essentially immediately post-canon vaguely fluffy dealings. I had intended to be writing a Milliways AU in which Aziraphael fell and brought Lucifer terribly messy presents, but my brain revolted and beat me into submission with snarking and sweetness. Damn brain.
2. I find editing most difficult. Mostly I type things directly into the update box and post and run away. It's very very rare that I will actually save things and go back to them later, because on rereading I tend to think it sucks. Easiest is definitely dialogue; I have a talent for character voice, which is something I've just recently started admitting to myself.
3. I want to write stories. With plot, and length, and suchlike. Only I'm absolutely dreadful at planning and maintaining interest for that long.
4. I don't actually know. I'm horrible! I don't read nearly as much as I ought to, although I've read some of your longer posts and your style of writing is certainly intriguing enough and grammatically correct enough that I suspect I'd enjoy it. You have anything you'd like to recommend to me?
5. Hmm. That's an interesting one, actually. I always liked... um. Very simplistic ones, about taking a horse to market and meeting a faery in the path, that sort of thing. The kind that come in big anthologies and are never interesting enough to get sugar added by Disney.
6. It totally is! Even though I'm eating breakfast!

Date: 2006-04-13 04:28 am (UTC)2. Editing is an evil whore. I spent god knows how long trying to get the hang of that, and IMO the only way you can do it effectively is with someone helping you and bringing you tea when you start screaming "WHY DID I WRITE THIS SHITE" and pointing out that it's not really that bad. And, you do. You really do.
3. Writing ahead with scenes that come in later on seems to help with this.
4. Heh, the most popular stuff thus far as been the joint nano project with Z (http://community.livejournal.com/2soldiersinlove/profile), and the twins (http://community.livejournal.com/100originalfics/tag/hamiltwins) (more of that, longer ones, on
5. Ayeaye. I've always been fond of the Russian and Norwegian ones myself - the ones with the Really Scary Witches and trolls and where the hero is always called Vassily.
6. My watch says I have half an hour yet! My stomach is going GRRRRMMMMRRRR!
Re: I shall ask more than one
Date: 2006-04-13 04:36 am (UTC)And I'm absolutely going to post it when I'm done.
Cookie:
"I do not love you except because I love you."
"…what?"
"Neruda." Aziraphale nodded at the book he had in his hand, and Crowley thankfully dropped his gaze, his brain making entirely unhelpful noises. "It goes on the second shelf to your left, somewhere between that book on pottery and Being and Nothingness. If you would?"
"Right." He looked vaguely at the book for a second or two longer, then went over to shove it on the bookshelf. "And what," regaining composure, which was rather easier with his back turned, "kind of cataloguing system is that, anyway? How's anyone supposed to find anything?"
The stool clattered across the floor, and Crowley turned to face the angel, who was a good deal closer than he'd been.
"If people only looked where they ought to be looking, my dear boy, they'd only ever find what they thought they wanted. This way, they might well find what they actually need."
Crowley blinked. Sometimes sunglasses were a ble- a very good thing.
"Yeah, that or you're just being a contrary b- "
"Now now, Crowley." The laughter in his voice was considerably more pronounced. "There's no need for language like that."
Re: I shall ask more than one
Date: 2006-04-13 04:55 am (UTC)I may yet name a character Vassily. It has ingrained cultural resonance, rather like "Jack", which I always thought of as a title more than a name. You have to EARN "Jack".
Re: I shall ask more than one
Date: 2006-04-13 04:41 am (UTC)Writing ahead would be ace. Only... I seem to only be able to write in order. I will work on this. I have snippets of dialogue and the like that'll come later in this fic, but I can't write 'em yet.
I MIGHT JINX IT!
