Oh. God. Sudden panic.

I'm going to AMERICA! in three weeks. Also CANADA!

I've never done this before! I mean, I've only been to Europe! I know there are things I should be organising only I don't know what! I don't know what to take! I don't know how to survive the flight! I don't know where to find a paper bag when I REALLY REALLY NEED ONE!

It'll be fine. I know it'll be fine. Just. AAAAAARGH!

Well, in THAT case, I SUPPOSE I can wave off your choice in travel destinations. :p

Bring shorter clothing than you think. You will have, afaik, no need for long sleeves or jeans in the parts of America where you'll be travelling!

...right. Tomorrow I'm going to Peacocks. (I live in Wales! There is no summer here!)

If you know your American-style size, I'm pretty sure we might find clothing to fit you here, so that you don't have to splash out too much.

I theeeenk 14-16, although I could be lying.

*grins*

I have some strappy tops, jeans I can roll up, a long hippy skirt. I'll find a couple more cheap things that won't have to last more than a couple of weeks, it'll be grand. :D

During the vewwy vewwy short time I was in Glasgow/London, I am a 14 in US sizes and a 12 in UK...I think. At any rate they are very close.

I am excited to know that you are coming! It will be very nice to meet you - and if you have no plans for the fourth yet, I have a BBQ. :D?

Long hippy skirts are ace for hot summers. *hates shorts* *will be wearing lots and lots of flowy skirts even aside from any River impersonations*

Well, I'm sure you'll get a lot of advice about packing and stuff, so I'm sharing the safeguards I always use:

1. Leave a full itiniary, flight #s included, and photocopy of your passport, with your parents.

2. Copy down your passport information and store it in a safe place in your luggage, like a pocket of your carry-on.

3. In your wallet, place a piece of paper giving your name, home address/phone, and blood type. List anything you're allergic to. Then list the telephone numbers of two to three trusted people with the message "In the event I am incapacitated and my family cannot be reached, the following people are authorised to act as my next of kin".

4. Write down the telephone numbers of the nearest embassies in the US and Canada and keep them in a safe place (storing a copy in a privatelocked post on LJ wouldn't hurt either).

On the flight(s), healthwise:
Two days before you fly, start taking baby asprin. It will thin your blood and prevent/reduce swelling.
Take your own water bottle on the airplane.
Do not drink cola on the airplane unless you're feeling ill, then drink only clear sodas like ginger ale or 7up. Not only do they make you need to pee more, they dehydrate you. Tomato juice or orange juice are better.

Holy crap I never do any of this stuff.
You, sir, are an overachiever.

...

Wait, we knew this already, didn't we?

It's a combination of living with an overprotective parent and having been hit by WAY too many cars. The #3 paper, about emergency next of kin, is something I carry in my wallet at all times, actually. It came in handy one time because I was so frazzled I couldn't remember my own mother's phone number, but there it was in my wallet...:D

Um, um. Travel. Yes. DON'T PANIC, bring a towel, etc. :)

If you are anything like me this will be impossible, but I would only say that for such a long trip, try not to overpack. We have washing machines, and stuff. I wouldn't bother with things that require converters, though if you do need one I'm pretty sure I have one that works going this way. I can mail it to Rami or something.

Relax as much as you can on the flight, and try to not sleep till you're supposed to in the new time zone. Of course, then Millicon will come and screw up all your timezones completely, so. Maybe don't worry about it so much. :P

If you get diverted to Atlanta -- weird things happen, and certainly stranger things have happened, and Hartsfield is the busiest airport in the world -- call. :D I can give you number!

There will be a paper bag in the pocket in front of you on the plane. *halo*
