I'm trying to think up a way to tell dad that although yes, I love the CDs he sent me in Cardiff, the majority of his music taste is actually awful. And while I realise cleaning toilets is not the most savoury of jobs and some sort of bonus is due, I do not agree that blasting some sort of R&B pap through the house is fair. Did I attack him with Matthew Good while I was hoovering? I did not. I guess the Good Omens Apocalypse fic I'm pondering will have to wait until... possibly tomorrow. When they've gone away to visit meiner alterer Schwester.

I spent the morning falling back in love with Southampton, bit by bit. Once you get past the civic centre, the enormous mall and all the concrete you suddenly hit this oasis - the old city. At least half of the old walls are standing and I ambled along the top of them, passing Tudor House, the Tudor Merchant's Hall, St Michael's Church, the Maritime Museum and a variety of memorials and statues. Everything was closed of course, it being a Monday, but I went and sat in Mayflower park, by the sea, and read House of Leaves in the shade.

Oh hell, it's been a good day so far. Dad can listen to his pap and I'll distract myself with more of my book. Worse things happen at sea.

Tudor waterfronts for the win. The Barbican was always my favourite part of Plymouth, arcitechturally speaking - all those narrow roads and lopsided buildings make for a nice change from "We were bombed to the ground in the 40s and rebuilt" shopping centres.

Some parts of Southampton are pretty much as nice as, say, Salisbury. Just Salisbury does it better and doesn't have so much of the BLARGH CONCRETE. There's a street in Southampton called Concrete Terrace, and the funny thing is it's in the modernish but still pretty part of the old town. It made me go WHUT? XD

Drink water, also. *pets carefully*

Salisbury is quite beautiful, it's true - I think it falls down for not being by the sea, though. Seasidishness is an automatic plus 10. I'm assuming Soton got bombed to buggery in the same period as Plymuff, for the same reasons? Hence the encroaching concrete?

Some bloke wibbling around the note and never quite hitting it and singing about his 'baby'. I do not like this type of music. Or... I have yet to come across an example I like. I try not to be too close-minded about such things but bleeeeech.

Posts like this make me go "OMG I love Nny" quite a lot. R&B pap is not fair, yes. I don't hate all R&B, but I strongly suspect I Just Don't Get a lot of it.

And I got your text but have no credit: my answers are yes, yes, and I have the being-in-public-in-a-swimsuit fear but am confident I can get over this with reminders that none of these people are ever likely to meet me again and you are hopefully unlikely to hate me, so don't let it get in the way of stuff you would really like to do. :) (Also, a reminder here that truthfully, I'm the easiest person to amuse ever. Sitting around in a park or something will count as totl glee and excitement, so don't worry about me being bored, LOL.)
