Post of all randomness
Sep. 26th, 2006 04:34 pm- ...Hunh.
- Did I ever mention we (as sibling collective) got a Wild West Gunslinger game for Christmas last year?
- I have a collection of bites on the back of my leg. Judging by the size of the lump something must've got caught in my sock, or something; there's about five of them there.
- Every time I mention that I'm feeling better or that my pain ain't so bad or what have you, my body goes THERE IS NO PLACE FOR OPTIMISM HERE! It's fun. Yup.
- It's amazing how much time at uni will do for you even outside the degree subject. Teaches you a different way to look at the world and format your thoughts and suchlike. So even though I don't feel like I chose the right subject, and I kinda screwed up, it was still a positive part of my life with a good end result. I'm very pleased by this.
- If I make an ass of myself, or if you feel like I've not thought an opinion through enough or expressed it badly, please let me know. I'd rather I knew than found out down the line that you've thought I'm an idiot for years.
- I have no idea if that sentence is accurately tensed. I can't be bothered to work it out.
- I'm already looking forward to half term.

Date: 2006-09-26 08:08 pm (UTC)You know, between that and the Blue Sun Biofuel website that popped up earlier in the year, I am shooting more and more suspicious glances in Joss Whedon's direction.

Date: 2006-09-26 08:51 pm (UTC)okay, nervous now.
Date: 2006-09-27 04:42 am (UTC)You link to an article about Americans wanting to learn Mandarin in a way that expresses confusion and some bemusement: - ...Hunh. I know you can't control your comments, but at least one person responds with even more bemusement. Would you respond in the same way to an article about how the Chinese are scrambling to learn English? Or, say, an article about how Americans want to learn German?
Maybe I am overreacting and I've read your post and the comments wrong. But you know, this kind of thing piles up and it piles up and I never know what the posters are really thinking; I can only go on the impression I get, because frankly, asking and clarifying would probably be more trouble than it's worth. I'd usually just twitch and move on, but -- I trust you, and I sort of feel I should speak up now, because it'd be unfair not to, with so many people expressing their desire to know what kind of cluelessness ticks me off.
Re: okay, nervous now.
Date: 2006-09-27 05:48 am (UTC)However, I do take your point. Probably the significant part, the major indication of my cluelessness was that I didn't even think about someone having an adverse reaction to how I'd phrased it. It's very easy, since (thinking about reading that article you linked to yesterday) I've selected my friends a lot of the time to match my interests on various subjects, to assume that they are coming from the same place as me, you know?
That's why I am genuinely interested when people make posts about opinions and suchlike that are really important to them, because I already know we have similar perspectives on fandom, and if everyone agreed all the time it would be a very dull place. People who get too caught up talking about fandom or their RP character or what have you do tend to bore me, rather - although obviously it depends how much of their own voice is clear in what they're saying.
...and I've just woken up from a dream about Rodney McKay, so I'm not sure how much sense that made. I'm hoping it was at least a little. :D
(And, genuinely, thanks for asking. Sometimes I manage to insert foot firmly in mouth, and not find out for weeks, so I appreciate it. :))
