*pokes head into journal apologetically*

I'm terribly sorry, I know I'm not supposed to be updating much, but I think weekends should be looser about such things because there's a far greater amount of time I'm on the internet and not updating, so. My reason is marvellous.

Anyway, just a quick post to say I'm pretty much settled on a pretty little mp3 player instead of an iPod, although [livejournal.com profile] unravels has unsettled me slightly as to whether it's a good idea, since it uses windows media instead of iTunes, and goddammit I know nothing about this stuff. The mp3 player is cheaper? And my sister's iPod is breaking after a year? Oh blast, now I'm all confuzzled again. take a look and let me know if it's a good deal?

In the meantime, the actual point of this post was to ask if anyone has any Grieg they can spare me, or if anyone has Cricket by the Dance Hall Crashers because I love it ridiculously and only have it on cassette, which I'm worried will die a painful death eventually.

Oh, and Rilke's Duino Elegies are bloody beautiful, which I've mentioned before and will no doubt mention again, but which bears repeating.

I have had nothing but good things to say about my Zen Nano Plus, for the record. You can transfer files from iTunes, drag and drop, it's an MP3 player and a wma player. The problem comes in if you rip CDs with iTunes or otherwise use m4a format. iTunes is a little son of a bitch and rips CDs to its proprietery format, which is a pain, but I'm more inclined to blame iTunes than the mp3 player.

...damnit. "it's an MP3 player and a wma player." should be "if what you're getting is an MP3 player and NOT a wma player."

Which. I have no idea how I did that, but.

I rip CDs with Lavavo Audio CD Ripper, whatever the hell is that - rips to mp3, so I'm cool with that.

:D

It has an FMtuner built in, meaning it can get radio and the zen microphone works okay, so you can give little voice notes to yourself. When it says it is "optimized" for windows media, it just means that the thingy was designed for windows media. It works with other programs, I promise.

I don't use ipods. They're too expensive and I'm to harsh on them. I break 'em way too easy. I've got a tiny little 1GB thingy that runs off batteries and I love it. I like the creative zen things. They work great and you can be really mean to them without breaking them.

Don't know about price because converting between moneys confuses me, but it's a good buy in general. They last longer than ipods.

That was pretty much exactly the info I wanted.

*grins*

Apparently the mp3 player is $267. But I just got paid ... wow. The equivalent of $1418. So not too ridiculous, right?

For the 8GB one? *frowns* I saw they have the 20GB photo one for just twenty or something more. I say get that if you're going to plop down $300ish for anything. But I'm a yank. Bigger is better, right? :D

...dude, I can't imagine ever needing 20GB. My computer has five.

What would I do with it?

KISS MY SHINY METAL ASS!

XD

Just. I'd get confused by having that much music. And I don't have a digital camera so wtf photos? I want more HD space on computer so I can download more TV! What would I do with it on a thingy mp3 thing?

You can put TV on the iPod and watch it ANYWHERE! it's pretty cool. I only have two episodes on my iPod.

Mm. But if I go out it's generally to see someone or something, so that just seems antisocial, to me. I'd rather save the extra money I'd have to spend and put it towards a shiny laptop.

Fair enough.

Out of curiosity, what is the cost of an iPod over there?

I have no idea, honestly! I only have my 1GB thingy that I got super cheap and I love it something stupid. But you can put photos and things of the like on the ones with color screens. And some of them do video.

*shrugs*

Honestly, it just depends on what you want. I wanted a laptop, not a video mp3 player. >_> I didn't want to carry both, to be honest. So, I've got my little mp3 player and then my laptop with the huge ass harddrive for other stuff. and I'm happy. :D You'll figure out what you want, honest.

I am on my second iPod, and I love them both. They have their share of problems, but then again, what electrical device doesn't? I know they're pricey, but... I don't know, I just love mine like crazy.

I know nothing about the Zens, so I have nothing to say other than: Does it have a warranty? And if so, how long does it last?

This is a little late, but I personally prefer mp3 players, mainly because I hear stories about other people's iPods going wonky and also because it's cheaper. The one disadvantage is you can't play m4as on them.

Both my kids have got Creative mp3 players, though not this model, and they are robust little buggers - the players not the kids though that applies to them as well. One of them, a Creative MuVo, has survived multiple instances of being dropped, once out of an upstairs window, and being left in the rain and trodden on and so forth and while wildly battered still plays a treat.

I cannot help with mp3 players, but I do have Grieg!
Here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/koxuxa) is a whole cds worth. It has selections from Peer Gynt including one of my all time favorites, "Solveig's Song" plus Lyric Suite, op. 54 and 3 Pieces for Orchestra, op. 56. I hope this fits the bill!
