If you liked QAF look up 'The Empty Child' from the first series of new DW, (Ninth Doctor). It's not the first episode, but it's when Capt. Jack enters the scene.
Mmmmm. Good Omens in the style of QAF-era RTD would be pretty.
(Normally I'm totally fine with the-police-are-getting-younger syndrome, but somehow QAFUK manages to trip it for me. See, when QAF was first screened, I was 14 and Nathan was 15. Now I'm 22 and Nathan is still 15. *twitches*)
Yes! Preeeeetty. This is precisely my point. It wouldn't be deep or meaningful, but neither is Good Omens unless you choose to see it. I'm not sure RTD would quite get the subtle humour of it - his characters seem to be painted with slightly too broad strokes, but it would be pretty and English and fun. And Crowley and Aziraphale would be quite obviously shagging.
And I've never seen it before - my mum didn't approve of the gay - so I just wanted to smack Nathan through most of it, really. XD
I'm not too sure if most of the things I really love about the book can translate to film, so for me the hope is just that the film is enjoyable (and oh, oh, RTD would certainly get that right)... *grins*
Trust me, Nathan seemed pretty damned slappable when I was 14, too.
Because Terry Gilliam owns the rights, and Terry Gilliam is capable of not being a hackneyed idiot who beats people around the heads with morals and segues into unnecessary speechifying at the drop of a TV exec. I hate RTD.
Sorry. That was abrupt. I'm in a foul temper with myself today, for being unable to hold onto annoyance and for not being able to stand up to people. Unfortunately anger at myself reflects out into wider world.
I want a Good Omens of strange lighting and wobbly sets and obvious gay and huge amounts of English. Terry Gilliam is fab but everything is a little unworldly, and I love Good Omens because it is very real. Plus RTD would choose someone prettier for Aziraphale and I'm a shameless heathen. I think my ideal Good Omens would be very like Hitchhikers, only not, and I think that I'm interested in every possible interpretation of the book so whoever makes the film I'll still want to see it.
And I imagine I'd probably go and see it regardless of who directed it, but would moan about it on LJ a little more if RTD was allowed to handle the transition. Perhaps if he was casting director but not actual director director, free to choose the pretties but not insert long waffly speeches?
Heh, see, now I'm thinking of a Russell T style speech for Crowley.
"I'm a demon, a snake, duke of lies, temptation in a fucking good suit. I'm a liar, a manipulator, I'll fuck with your mind and make you want it, make you beg for it, make you crawl back to me on your belly in the dust, ready to do anything for the taste of fucking apples..."
Yes, but I also can't imagine a situation in which it would be necessary for him to say it. That's the thing - Vince's speechifying and Stuart's had their places and suited their charac - ah, ranting again. Sorry.
