I've... I've lost all my bookmarks.

I do not have a suitably distressed icon for this.

The - the thing about books bound in skin! And scientists using grammar TO FIGHT CRIME DISEASE! And pretty much all my SG:A fix! And Ben Lee music! And all the stuff I don't even remember!

I THINK there's a way to get them back, a backup file somewhere in the system files, but I'm not sure where it is. D: Maybe someone else will know... try googling it?

What browser are you using?? Sometimes it's possible to dig a little and find a backup file of bookmarks .... I can try to help!

Okay, okay, let's see ... It is a file with the FireFox red swoosh as its icon, and called, logically enough, "bookmark.html".

If all is operating according to Hoyle, you should see your bookmark file here:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile

A backup should be found here:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

And even also here:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\gie9gcsv.default

Assuming you can find it in one of those two places ::crosses fingers:: copy the file and paste it in the location up there ::points at top of comment::.

There doesn't appear to be a folder in WINDOWS called application data.

D'oh.

Run a search for "bookmarks.html" (without the quotation marks, of course!), and it will tell you where-all they might be in your computer.

I shall wax didactic here to save potential time, if you'll forgive me:

Start button / Find / files or folders
Type in Name: bookmarks.html
Select location: My Computer
Click on: Find Now

You should be able to right click and copy from this window, and paste at:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile

There should (I just found it) be a whole folder called "bookmark backups" -- mine contains five different dated copies of my bookmarks file.

Another idea would be to search your "My Computer" for all instances of the word "firefox" -- a longer list, but should locate for you the elusive files called "bookmark backups", which is what you really-truly want here.

Del.icio.us (http://del.icio.us/mary_re)!!! It is a website that stores your links for you, and you can organise them by whatever classifications you want, and control who can see what you have saved, and all kinds of things! I heard horror stories of such stuff as has happened to you, and was greatly afeared, and so I ran to open a del.icio.us account (it's free, btw), and then spent months and months moving my bookmarks there. This way, if I get a new computer, I'll still have all my bookmarks. If that website ever dies, howver, I will be GREATLY UPSET.

But also, I have many, many SG:A links saved to my account, so feel free to look through them to try and possibly get a few of your own saved pages back, or at least find some shiny new fic. I have lots of really random shiny fics and things saved there, so you might even find some new stuff to adore...?
