Hay.

Waidaminute.

So phones, not so much because holding up to head hurts. AIM, no. Ow, typing.

Are people still using skype, or is that a fad that died?

And if they are, anyone know where I can get a cheap headphone-microphone combination thinger?

I mean, no guarantees with my computer's track record. But it's a possibility?

I would still use it if people were around to use it with.

Hey hot stuff, have you heard of something like one of those dictating softwares? I use Dragon Speakeasily 9 for papers and doing oral reviews. You can farf around for and find it and others to download in places. I just thought I'd mention it for helping writing stuff. Or a nice, cheap digital recorder that can upload to the computer, because that helps me when my knuckles get really swollen.

I don't know about your part of the world, but over here, a simple computer mic and earbuds can be got in the local dollar store. (Not great quality, but worth a try.) Other idea: do they have the equivalent of Radio Shack over there? (Anywhere that would carry simple consumer electronics would have that sort of thing, in a wide range of quality and pricing ...)

I... don't tend to use Skype, because it kind of bypasses AIM's brain-hands-type filter that gets rid of most of my ass a.m. stupidity. But I could!

A warning, though: if your computer can't handle AIM? It... more than likely won't run Skype.

Other thought: with a simple mic you can do vocal exchanges in MSMessenger ... not as familiar with AIM or Y!M, but .....

I'm using Gizmo, because of the whole LJ-voicepost thing. And my mike is shitty, but whatever XP

I use Skype... there's also a feature on it that lets you use it to call landlines, and vice versa. It costs a little bit, but is waaaay cheaper than your average international phone call. Not sure how it compares in UK calls, but it might be worth looking into.
