I love Rodney's reason for admiring batman, I have to say - it was pretty much my reason when I was a kid, too.

This episode is really bouncing up and down on my contact embarrassment triggers - lots of dialogue that is clearly there for no other reason than exposition, a plot that reeeeally isn't surprising me so much so far - I'm not all the way through it, yet, but I suspect that the revelation that Kolya's in it is something that would've worked better coming in the credits at the end, like they used to do with Nick Lea in the X-Files. It's always nice for a rat bastard to come as a surprise.

Anyway, we shall see how things unfold...

(Okay, the team emerging from the bushes like that made me crack up. It's like... oh, I don't know. Hardy Boys, or Secret Seven, or something. I want them to have a clubhouse to go and discuss developments in, although that might be [livejournal.com profile] skoosiepants's fault.)

...wow. Kolya's gettin' chubby. And Rodney's still unnerved by him, which absolutely makes the bit in Brotherhood where he's all impatient and snapping his fingers for Kolya to give him the knife even better. It'd be nice to attribute that bit to Rodney being particularly heroic and not caring because it's friends in danger and suchlike, but the parts where he has been heroic - Before I Sleep, Hide and Seek for instance - he's been terrified and heroic. In Brotherhood I think he was just entirely focused on getting hold of the ZPM (quite possibly trusting that John would figure out some way of ensuring they keep it) and when brain engages like that it completely distances everything else.

It's kinda adorable.

...wow, Kolya's gettin' really chubby.

John can be such an ass sometimes. Personal vendettas are NOT more important than an entire village of people, dear, although I do appreciate that Kolya really deserves a good asskicking. And yes, putting your life in the hands of the man who owes you absolutely nothing and would, in fact, benefit from your disappearance is such a very good plan. Why has Rodney, king of paranoia, not pointed this out yet? Especially since the personal shield running out of power has been explicitly mentioned and therefore clearly Lucius is going to need a bargaining chip...

Damn them for not realising that their lives are entirely dictated by narrative dictates!

Oh, okay, see that's quite cunning, actually. Although why he's actually let them attempt to drown him is curious.

Hmm. Kolya's sort of lost his menace. Perhaps it's the beergut that's done that; he just seems entirely too smiley, now. I'm sure he used to be steelier... then again, it could just be because he's threatening someone I don't care overly about. I mean, don't get me wrong, I will love Richard Kind forever, but Lucius? Nah. They can totally bury him alive.

And again, John is a)entirely predictable, and b)entirely made up of contradictions. How is this possible? He is large. He contains multitudes. *shrugs*

Okay, that I liked. With the gun, and Kolya accidentally sparing someone's life? That worked well, and he carried it off well, and okay. He can keep his menace.

It amuses me immensely that Rodney has finally found someone he's more diplomatic than, in certain situations. (I'm looking at you, Ronon.) And the repetition of Lucius not being a hero is not at all clumsily leading.

And Rodney has clearly seen Shawshank Redemption one too many times. Votes on whose personal item that was?

Why is John shocked that Kolya's threatening to kill his friends? I mean, it's not exactly like it's the first time, now, is it?

Re: jackets. How come Carson's panels have disappeared? And how come Teyla's are red? Is that the diplomatic colour or is she just borrowing Elizabeth's clothes?

Hahahahahaa I want to see the outtakes on this. I want to see how many times Joe cracked up at Richard Kind, here. XD

Wow, it's High Noon. Shiny. ...except that seemed kind of an unfitting end to Kolya. Hmmph. There should have been more drama, unless of course he's going to be improbably resurrected later on in the season. I suppose we shall see.

All in all, not bad. Not great, not nearly so full of immense amounts of squee as last week's, but not bad.
