So I was a size 20. (For you US folken, that's... what, 16?)
Then I went clothes shopping today, and I bought two tops that're 16s, and a pair of jeans that're 18s. OH YEAH, BABY.
(Shh. Small steps. It's progress.)
I bought some gorgeous feathered angel wings, and postcards of Winchester Cathedral, and a present for mah ex-housemate, and got really really OMG hot mulled cider spilled on my hand but it was still good enough that I went back for a second cup. Also spent 45 minutes wandering around the Cathedral before it was officially open, which just meant that I got in for free. The crypt with the Gormley was closed, sadly, but I saw the Burne-Jones windows. I particularly like 'The Annunciation' (ridiculously, this is the only picture I can find of it online), possibly because it has Mary plus vaguely worried looking angel plus snake wrapped around a tree between them. No prizes for working out why this makes me grin.
The thing I love most about stained glass windows is the absolutely stunning colours that angels' wings come in. The one in the annunciation has gorgeous shades of red, but there's another window I particularly liked which has an angel with the most beautiful purple wings, plus a man with a very dapper feather in his hat which reminded me of the St James Park story over on
puzzlebleuink.
I also gleed at the carvings, one wall in particular looking like a particularly odd game of charades. Also there was a small carving of a bishop holding onto a man's head, which was... interesting. Was fascinated, too, by the chests placed high up on a wall which contained bones of former kings and queens of Wessex. 'cos. Just. Dude.
So yeah. Good, if wholly tiring, day so far. Now I have things to be getting on with.
