nny: (finding my way)

...my little sister just randomly made me a smoothie. Completely derailing my train of thought incidentally, but :D!

My computer's getting delivered tomorrow. The word SQUEE does not do it justice, seriously. Is there a quick way to transfer things across from one computer to the other? When I have only one monitor between them? Or is it best just to upload the various things I want onto the internet and then download 'em on the new computer?

I have decided, by the by, not to be scared. There's no bloody need for it. Like today, when there was an inset day and we were discussing various options, and my opinions were totally valid and useful so hell, I spoke up. And then we were in the canteen, and usually I hide during break/lunch but fukkit. Most of the people I meet like me, I think, so why should I be scared about being rejected by the people I work with? If they choose not to talk to me that's kind of a shame, but it's really no reflection on me, I think. A lot of the things I'm scared of are more habit than anything. The adrenaline and squirmy-stomach feeling are merely learned responses to situations, and I can get past them.

*nods decisively*

I believe I made a hell of a lot of progress, last year. Not gonna stop now. :D

All modern computers should have a network slot in the back, right? The sort that takes one of those blue phone-like-cables? Anyway!, set up the new computer with the monitor, and hook the old computer up to it. The new computer should be able to see the old computer as being networked to it, and you should be able to just copy things across, as you'd do from one file to another ...

Someone who has an official diploma in this can confirm or deny that I have a clue. Please?

Sounds, BTW, like you've made some real intellectual/emotional breakthroughs recently! Good onya. I wish I had come to that headspace so young. ::/old biddy:: ;]

It's good to see such a positive and pro-active post from you. Yay for progress!

If I had to transfer stuff from one computer to another, I'd burn it onto CDs or DVDs. **Is not computer literate**

That's certainly a good method, in that it's sure-fire and also gives you backups! But slow .....

*grins*

Sadly, part of the reason I am getting a new computer is that my CD-RW doesn't work. XD

*cheers wildly* Hell yes for stomping on the scared. I think I should print it out and make it a mantra or something.

Also, 'puter! OMG. I'll just be here, running in circles.
