Feb. 26th, 2007 04:50 pmI was talking to
liz666 a couple of days ago about how my mum doesn't discuss sanitary towels. She doesn't talk about periods or sex, either, although every now and again she'll make a joke that'll have me coming out with a high pitched MUM! I think it's squeam rather than prudishness - I just happened to mention that I was a bit snotty and she flailed and told me that for heaven's sake she was cooking.
It tallies with what I was thinking about yesterday, though, so I'll neatly segue in a completely seamless fashion that you won't notice. :D
What I was wondering was who TMI cuts are for. A lot of people on my f-list cut mention of periods and suchlike, and I just wondered who needed saving. I don't mean to sound a)self-righteous or b)accusing, since I am well aware that I am far more open on my journal than a lot of people, and that my comfort threshold is a lot more forgiving than many. I talk about anything on my journal that I would talk about in real life, frankly, and sometimes more; I talk on my journal as though I've had a couple of drinks and loosened my inhibitions a little. I just wondered, really, who you're thinking of when you cut - the poor unfortunate males on your f-list, the squeamish, the RL folken? For that matter, what do you cut? Talk of menstruation? Illnesses? Sex?
I suspect there is something of the attention seeking ten-year-old still lurking within me. You know, the part of you that still enjoys peeling off sunburned skin, picking at scabs, doing really loud burps and prodding at a new piercing when it goops. *grins*
Basically, I will talk about pretty much anything people ask me about, sometimes far louder than is appropriate. What this means is that when I do the ask me anything meme I very rarely get asked anything, since everyone knows pretty much everything there is to know. (I talk too much.)
For the record, then: If you want to know anything about me, at any time, feel free to ask. I may refuse to answer, although it's exceeding rare, but I will never be upset by the asking.
