Sadly provokation will only get you a reduction to manslaughter, and I mean, it's got to be pretty convincing provokation. Then there are some kinds of automatism that'll get you off scot-free (sleepwalking, momentary insanity-- eg someone killing their abuser, not likely to happen again) and others that will get you in some kind of care facility (insanity, hypoglycaemia). And, of course, necessary self-defence.
Very bad hypoglycaemia can lead to agression and violent outbursts and the person is (supposedly) unaware as the higher brain functions have shut down due to lack of glucose and oxygen.
No, it totally isn't, cause I think of Rodney every time I consider citrus. XDDD ... also, thank you kindly makes me think of Fraser. *communal geekiness*
The hypo one amused me because I get hypos, quite a lot-- not usually bad ones, but sometimes bad, and I can get how maybe you could kill someone in that state.
Amusingly, I've seen a lot of people get things wrong with Rodney's low blood sugar thing. In fic, obviously, but in canon, too, because when he fainted from manly hunger he didn't have any of the symptoms of low blood sugar first and recovered without any sugar. Not that I watch SGA for scientific accuracy, mind. *g*
I was in this (http://unravels.livejournal.com/100180.html) state after only a week with them. I think you only need say "I was living with my family!" and anyone with a family would understand.
I'm not saying it would hold up in court, mind. :/

Thank you very kindly.
(Hypoglycaemia? Is it bad that that instantly leads to Rodney justifying himself loudly in my head?)
