SG:A ficlet
Mar. 28th, 2007 09:50 pmThe rarely used curtain in the corner of the infirmary clacked shut and the container of eggs was set down with enough force to set the various and sundry medical implements rattling.
"I think this has gone on quite long enough, don't you?"
The Scottish accent had mysteriously disappeared, though the eyes were just as blue as ever they had been; slightly more accusing than was habitual, perhaps. His scowl intensified as Crowley hopped up to sit on the bed, running fingers idly over the blue-black scales that climbed the side of his neck.
"You don't like it? I think it sssuits me."
"The words 'testing' and 'destruction' could easily come into play." Aziraphale fiddled distractedly with the stethoscope that was draped around his neck and tried not to grit his teeth. It'd been a good long while since the demon's eyes had been that familiar shade of yellow, but the barely suppressed laughter in them was ever irritating and irrepressible. "You'll just have to admit that I've won this round; they'll go to quite ridiculous lengths in the aid of a friend, they're far more selfless than you give them credit for, and it's not just because you're pretty."
It really wasn't his fault if he sounded a little smug. Crowley won entirely too many rounds, these days.
"All right. I'll give you this one." He grinned and widened his eyes a little. (Even when he was doing the 'and in conclusion, human' act, he'd never quite got the innocent look down.) "How're you going to tell them you fixed this one, then?"
"Oh." The angel's forehead wrinkled in thought (and this was the majority of his human act.) "I suppose I'll spin some story about genetic engineering again - they don't seem to tire of it."
Crowley snorted. "You could come up with something a little more creative..."
Aziraphale sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose. "For goodness' sake, man. I'm an angel, not a doctor."

p.s. I do think your writing is improving, though - from earlier stuff, you have a better flow and rhythm going on, and also a more...consistent? feel to it.
