Apr. 30th, 2007 06:32 pmI just read Ghosti by
hth_the_first and it was just... extraordinary. Seriously. I was shaken by it, by the way that metaphors ran through it and weaved together, the themes that framed it and held it, the characterisation, all of it. It's a genuinely beautiful story.
And when I was done, I thought that someday I'm gonna write something like that. Not 'I wish I could' but 'someday I will'.
Not now. The story I'm writing now is silly and threadbare and clamouring to be told so loudly that not much thought is going into the construction; the words are placed as they will, without much intervention on my part, but this isn't a story that needs grace notes. They'd hang uncomfortably on it. I'm enjoying writing it, and the people I've shown it to are enjoying reading it, and for now - after so long without writing - that's more than enough.
Someday, though.
