It depends, really, for the second one. But I usually see Artoo in the books, if it's dialogue.

This is how I have it at the moment:

“Hey, I’m not arguing.” Sheppard shrugged easily. “Lightsabers are awesome. Plus Luke had Artoo.” His smile curled a little at the edges, and the tone of his voice was positively indecent. “I’d have done anything for an R2 unit.”

It should be written R2D2. And not abbreviated.

Yes, R2D2, no space no dash.

Luke abbreviates it Artoo in speech, like as a name, just as he does Threepio, so I reckon that's okay.

Either the digital or written-out version is fine but, in the long version? MUST have the hyphen.
